Laxton, Johnny K.
Was born June 25, 1882, departed this life November 30, 1955, age 73 years,
5 months and 5 days. He was the son of James and Nellie Laxton. He
professed his faith in Christ and joined the United Baptist Church at Beech
Grove June 16, 1913, later moving his membership to the United Baptist
Church at Pine Knot, where he was a faithful member as long as his health
permitted. He was united in marriage to Mary Hill, November 13, 1904, who

Social Security records, and told the museum that they copied that

Sexton, Herbert H.-Was born October 13, 1928, and departed this life on
December 25, 1948. He joined the Pentecost Baptist Church May 15, 1938. He
joined the church at an early age, and we feel that he did not stray too far
from the fold. Before his death he left the message that he was going to
rest, which is a great comfort to our souls. He leaves to mourn his
passing, his father and mother, three sisters and five brothers, and a host
of relatives and friends. He was loved by all who knew him, and we

Sexton, Sgt. Manford E., Jr., departed this life on Wednesday,
September 17, 1952, about 11 p.m. as a result of an automobile accident near
Esto, Florida. He was born at Oneida, Tennessee, December 22, 1931. He was
20 years, 8 months and 25 days of age. He professed a hope in Christ at the
age of 14 and joined the First Baptist Church of Oneida, Tennessee. On
October 2, 1948, he transferred his membership to the Paint Rock Baptist
Church. He loved the Bible and his favorite reading was the 27th Psalm.
York, Mrs. Elsie-Widow of the late Alvis York, died at Norma February 13,
following an extended illness. She was 89 years of age. She was a member
of Buffalo Baptists Church of Winona, a splendid woman, and had a large
number of friends. Survivors include one son, W. A. York of Norma; one
daughters, Mrs. Samuel Rumsill of New Hampshire; one sister, Melvin Wood of
Caryville, Tenn.; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Funeral was at
Norma with Rev. L. M. Jeffers officiating. Interment in the Crowley

of 84 years, 7 months and 14 days. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Ester

of the Annadel Baptist Church, she was a true Christian until death. She

Harness, Bro. R. L.-Was born about 1886, joined the United Baptist Church at
Bull Creek in July 1900, then was ordained as deacon in the church some time
later. He died on July 25, 1947. He leaves one sister, Mary A
Phillips, Clifton Ray-Was born October 4, 1949 and deceased this life May
12, 1953. He was 3 years, 7 months and 8 days old. He is survived by his
parents, Elbert Lee Phillips and Mildred Phillips and a brother David. He

and Elsie King of Winfield, Edith Duncan of Oneida, and Lloyd Strunk of

years, 1 month, 13 days. He joined the Annadel Baptist Church in 1926 by
letter and remained until death. He leaves a host of friends and relatives.

Hull, Elmer Clarence-Born February 8, 1893, died November 8, 1959, age 66
years, 9 months. He was married to Myrtle Tompkins June 6, 1915. To this
union 8 children were born. One son died in infancy. He is survived by his
wife and 4 daughters,
Taylor, Thomas Ed-Age 68, a resident of Revelo, Ky., departed this life
February 15, 1956. Mr. Taylor, a valuable and loyal employee of the Stearns
Coal and Lumber Company for some 47 years began work on the K & T Railway
and later transferred to the planning mill. Ed, a well known and respected
citizen of McCreary County, joined First Hickory Grove some 47 years ago,
and was a charter [member] of that church. He was also an ordained deacon
of the church and lived a faithful Christian life until death.
Reynolds, Colonel-Born September 9, 1893, died February 27, 1953, age 59
years 7 months 18 days. He professed a hope in Christ and was baptized into
the Penticostal Baptist Church, October 6, 1933. He lived and worked in
that church a short time and moved his letter to the Pine Hill Baptist
Church and remained a faithful member until God saw fit to call him from
this world of sickness sorrow and pain to a home of peace, joy and rest. He
is greatly [missed] by his loving companions, 3 sons, 13 grandchildr
Daugherty, Emby Arlin, Was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky on April 1, 1894 and
departed this life on January 26, 1957 at the age of 62 years, 9 months and
25 days. Survivors: his wife, Mattie Daugherty of Oneida; 2 sons, three
daughters, 8 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He
professed faith in Christ sometime in early life and remained a faithful
member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida, Tenn., until his death.
Brother Daugherty was one of the most faithful members of the Beth
Bell, Seymour-Was born on September 25, 1881. He deceased this life June 9,
1964 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 14 days. He was the son of the
late J.T. and Nancy Bell. He was married to Margaret Lawson, August 15,
1889. To this union were born three sons, Clifton Bell, Willard Bell,
Herstle Bell; 3 daughters, Eva, Pearl, and Estella Mae. His first wife,
Margaret Lawson Bell preceded him in death May 1, 1915. He was married to
Laura B. Posey, November 25, 1917. To this union was born one son, S
Hurst, Mrs. Lou Frances Norman-Was born April 13, 1868. She died December
13, 1951 at the age of 83 years and eight months. She professed a hope in
Christ at the age of 16 and joined the Fellowship Baptist Church at
Armathwaite and lived a true Christian life. She was married to John Robert
Hurst, and to this union were born seven children, two of whom have passed
on before. Surviving are Mrs. Zona Coffee of Kentucky, Mrs. Fannie Crabtree
of Jamestown, Clem Hurst of Poplar Cove, Oliver Hurst and Mrs. Om
Botts, Thursey Ann Cook-Was born Sept. 28, 1872, deceased this life July 21,
1952, age 80 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was married to Rev. W. T.
Botts and to this union were born 10 children, 2 deceased this life in early
age. She brought her letter to Annadel Church in 1927, belonging there the
remainder of her days. She was a faithful member until death and was loved
by all who knew her. We feel our loss is her eternal gain in glory.
Thomas, Haggard-Deceased this life March 14, 1946, age 13 past,
Reed, Isaac R. S.-Son of Joel C. and Emily Reed was born February 28, 1873,
deceased this life, May 24, 1956, age 83 years, 2 months and 26 days. He
professed a hope in Christ and joined the Ezrel Church (now Cherry Fork) and
was baptized by brother Reubin Cecil, June 3rd, 1896. In 1922 he moved his
membership to Tunnel Hill as a Charter member, was ordained a deacon of that
church in September 1933. He came by letter to Hazel Valley where he
remained until death. He was faithful to his church when able
