Flora Jane was the d/o Layton Gregory & Cora L. Nichols. I have no idea who his father Harrison descends from. Theodore's parents are buried in the *Lower Hickery Grove Cemetery, McCreary Co., KY. Harrison Slaven; 1867-1958. Flora Jane Gregory Slaven; September 27, 1899 - February 10, 1964. I went to the Stearns Muesum here in McCreary Co. They sell if for $35. I believe it contains almost all of the Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. Employes. get the Book ...DUSTY BITS OF the FORGOTTEN PAST a history of Scott Co TENN. by H. CLay Smith. It has lots of history of OUR area. It's a good one to read. Scott Co historical Society was selling it at one point but it should be in libraries somewhere near. And is a very good book. brenda who still calls Strunk HOME!!! Haven't lived there in 30+ yrs but it's HOME.

The Muncie Starpress 10/8/04 MUNCIE - Theodore "Ted" Slavey, 80, died Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Parkview Nursing Center in Muncie after a long illness. He was born August 8, 1924 in Stearns, Kentucky and a son to the late Harrison and Jane (Gregory) Slavey. He retired in 1979 from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. He was a resident of New Castle since 1948, moving to Muncie in 1984. He was a member of Christian Pilgrim

McCreary County was formed in 1912 from parts of Whitley, Wayne, and Pulaski County and was named for Governor James B. McCreary.
