I found this mileage chart, of distances between Frankfort and all the rest
of the state capitals and decided it would be helpful to those
geography-challenged friends who don't quite know where KY, or Georgetown,
or Scott, Harrison, or Woodford Counties are.

Dear Listers,
In response to Phil Ellsworth's question about the burned Deed book for
Scott Co., KY:
I didn't do it! However, I have seen the LDS film of the burned pages.
When I saw it, I immediately suspected Yankees during the War of Yankee
Aggression, 1861-1865. But I seem to recall a statement about an
accidental burning that took place before that Police Action.
It seems that my ancestor, Lewis Vallandingham, after fighting the
British in the Rev War, went to KY to fight Indians with D. Boone and
Dear Listers,
Since Scott County has had several names prior to becoming Scott Co., I
was never sure that the deed I was searching for, during the years
around 1786, actually existed in the Scott Co. deed book. Does anyone
know if the really early deeds were in that book?
Tom
The LDS has microfilm of Scott County Deed Book B which consists of
copied fragments of burned deeds. Can someone review the history of
the burning and copying of this deed book?
Phil Ellsworth
Regarding the burned deeds about which I enquired, I believe they were
burned in a fire at the county clerk's home. However, I don't know
when that was, nor do I know when or by whom the remnants were
recopied. By reading a whole series of deed fragments I was able to
identify the heirs of John Campbell, who died in 1793. Among these
was Mary (Campbell) Wickersham, wife of James Wickersham. John
Campbell's wife was Phoebe. One source says she was Phoebe Sellers,
but I don't know the source of this info
Morning list,
Was there a TB hospital located in Scott Co in the late
1800's/early 1900's? I have two grt. Aunts who died of TB in or near
Georgetown that I'm trying to find. I know they both died before 1910,
they were Lydia Penick Turner and Fannie Penick Turner, twins that
married into my Turner line.
Will be most grateful for any help, Thank's much,
Teresa
Does any have a list and dates of the prior names of Scott County? My
grandfather's birth certificate said his parents were from Virginia. I
believe they did not move but the boundary did?
Thanks for any help. Researching Elijah Davis and his daughter Josephine
Davis who married Henry Clay Mills.

The Scott County Court house burned on August 9, 1837, and many records were
destroyed. What remained of the partially burned deed books were recopied by
the clerk. Some people brought old deeds in to be recopied into the books,
which explains the presence of some complete deeds. The early Scott County
tax books survived, although water damaged, and can be useful in determining
when a person acquired land.
Scott County was formed in 1792 from Woodford County. Woodford County was
formed in 1789 f
In 1796 Edward RALSTON & Robert BUCHANAN purchased land in Warren County,
Ohio while living in Scott County, KY. In 1801 Robert BUCHANAN drowned in
Warren County, OH with John POTTS, my gggg grandfather who was married to
Mary Ann RALSTON, Edward's sister. Does anyone recognize any of these
names? Any suggestions or clues appreciated.
I'll provide more detail below if anyone is interested.
Thank you very much.

Thanks very much to Doris Reed and Rick Johnson for information about

but it was probably done as a labor of love.
