FRIEND AND FORTY MISSING.
Frank A. PHILLIPS, who runs a rooming house at 918 Union avenue,
arrived home yesterday morning from a trip to Oklahoma. In his absence,
he left a friend in charge of his business. Yesterday morning, PHILLIPS
could not find the friend nor $40 which he says belongs to him. He gave
the police a description of the friend and asked them to look out for him.

I had a great Uncle, Joe Hohensinner who changed his name in grade school to
Holsinger because he was teased relentlessly about his Hohensinner surname. He
was born in Austria and came to the United States in 1911. It wasn't legally
changed to Holsinger until much later in life, but he used the Holsinger name
from grade school throughout his life. He chose the Holsinger name because

Yes, the Central Plains Region branch of the National Archives on Bannister Road in K.C. MO has the WW I alien registrations for the state of Kansas only. There are wonderful sources of information and often include a photo of the person. The registrations for many other states have not survived.

I left a message on the KansasCity-L (List) lately asking how you decided what information to put on the List. You and several others answered me - you said that the Jackson County marriage index is at the KC downtown library and that if I told you the ADAMS names that I am looking for, you would be able to look up the names for me. That would be so great because I can't come to KC to do research for a while and maybe I can get some information that I have been searching for, for a long time. Unfortunately,
Carol,
Thank you so much for looking. It is appreciated!

'Footpad' - I seem to remember from reading English mysteries, that the word 'footpad' was especially used in England. Then it probably came into use here.
Alien Registrations - A couple of days ago I wrote to the list saying that the Alien Registrations for Kansas are at the National Archives branch here. But when the person who had asked about them replied, he or she used the word 'draft' in connection with them. Let me be more explicit. These are not draft records. These are registrations of adult ali
