19th Century passenger lists. The Great Galveston Hurricane of 8 September
1900 submerged the island and destroyed much of the city, including the
buildings that housed the immigration rec
Hi William,

Hello, I am new to the list.
I am Candice Traylor.
I am wondering if their is a PIGNO listed or a MARTIN.
He came to this country around 1899-1901
His full name is Sam Pigno
Born 11-11-1898 in CIMINI a small village in SICILY.
Three years later came to this country through
New Orleans. He was ADOPTED by a man named MARTIN.
I don't know if he was adopted in CIMINI or in NEW ORLEANS.
Any info would be great.
Thank you
Candice Traylor
Hi Cindy,

Dear listmembers.
I have seen some correspondance on immigrants to Lousianna, so I thought that you might have a hint on my problem:
Saddler, Christian Wilhelm Olsen, born November 5., 1816, baptized February 9., 1816 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Married on April 1., 1849, Laura Jensine Borch born March 17.,1820, baptized August 6., 1820 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Their children were:
Frederik Wilhelm Olsen born December 31., 1845 in Copenhagen.
Erik Frederik Theodor Olsen born August 2. 1849 in Copenhagen.

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let that I have responded to those
requesting help on this list privately so as not to
bog down the list.
I have also responded to those who wrote to me
privately.
I am happy to check for specific names with some idea
as to whether the person would be a child or an adult.
With common names please don't ask for "any Smiths
for any time frame".
Thanks!!!
Denise

Only as a suggestion, since you have some idea of the WHEN that your
ancestor arrived and his birthdate and name change that there was an early
adoption, why not guesstimate when the adoption took place and start looking
for legal areas within New Orleans where they would 'house' these records,
such as the church within the parish and at the civil level...perhaps
finding this adoption via the certification whatever, religious or civil,
won't that start narrowing down some unknowns for you. As a sugg
Denise, After reading all the e-mails requesting info on
ancestors to LA, thaought that I would put 2 cents added to
the pot. What do you find on Charles and Gregoire Pellerin?
Both with families, ended up in LA after being deported

Hi Mary Ann,
I searched the indexes and found no James or Irene
Hanafin arriving before 1839 or 1841. There were 3
families but all arrived after 1848.
I also want to say that I did try several variations
of the name, even weird ones just in case. I know I
would hate to ask for help and then question how
thorough someone was in helping me.... :0)
Sorry...
