Could someone send me the link to the "FREE" Social Security master Death
index search site. The site from the Government.
My apologies for blasting the list, but so frustrated with all the pay
services that pop up when searching. I had it, but had to format my computer and
lost all my saved searches.
Thanks Immensely, Cathey
Cathey,
"nee" I believe is a French word for "born". It is generally used when
referring to a woman's maiden name.

That a Bible Record would be classified as a legal document, or authentic
document, such as a date of birth, or death, or marriage. I have heard of
this, but don't have any idea how to go about getting it done. Suggestions
welcomed.

Try one of these links. I don't remember which ones are free. Ancestry.com
requires fees for many of their databases. I believe they own Rootsweb who
may also charge. SearchGenealogy.net advertises as Free. I know that
Ancestry.com keeps updating their database with current entries. I am not sure if
the other databases do the same.

In the old days, before public records of births, a Bible record, written
about the time of the event by a close relative of the person, would have
been considered a source document for proof of the event.
Obviously the problem is that you can't really be sure who wrote the note
or when.
It would take some destructive forensics work to figure out approximately
when it was written by the composition of the ink.
If there were samples of the person's handwriting on other documents you

Ethel,
What do you mean by "certified". I know of no organization that gives any
type of certification to a family Bible. What exactly would they be
"certifying"?

I know this isn't about Louisiana, but it is about genealogy!
If I were to get a laptop and entered data into PAF, how would I then get
that data into my regular computer?
I'm looking for a way that I can work on genealogy where I can keep an eye
on my mother without moving my big computer out of my office. It just
occurred to me that a laptop might be the answer.
Hugs, Carolyn
The responses are coming in fast and furious. It's getting to be too many
to respond individually. Thank you all so much for your help.
