I know researching your family history is very hard and difficult.
I also know it can cost, but 1500.00 regardless if they find the
papers or not. Is this normal?

Le Comiti's Used Book Sale was a great success. We made over $560 which will be used to purchase new books for the Louisiana State Archives Research Room.
There are only a very few genealogy books and periodicals left, but if anyone is interested, I will be happy to e-mail them the lists of what remains. Please e-mail me directly.
Thanks to everyone who attended.

Fellow searchers,

according to family verbal history he drowned while duck

Jim,
Although it's true that Louisiana didn't start requiring death certificates
until around 1915, the Louisiana State Archives has an index and copies of
death certificates from 1900 and even a scattered few from the late 1800's.
Although not required to some doctors and coroners did send in death
certificates before 1915. It's only a matter of luck if your relative may
have a death certificate in the index and on the microfilm. I have found
some certificates on some of my relatives that died before 1915
Fellow researchers,

I am very grateful for your interest and responses.

To those of you who have asked; the only information I have

wife 4 months later, via the 1910 census.
To those of you who questioned my use of the Freedom Of

The Freedom of Information is not the correct vehicle! You need to check
the death records - see http://www.state.la.us/certificates.htm

Jim,
You may be able to get a death certificate from Louisiana Vital Records
Registry, P. O. Box 60630, New Orleans, LA 70160, (504)568-5152.
If there is a death certificate it will at least let you know what parish he
drowned in and you can go from there.
