Hi, Avoyelles researchers. I've started transcribing the 1900 Avoyelles
census, and found several families with the surname of Deville, if I'm
reading it correctly. However, the capital letters D and S look very much
alike in the handwriting of the day, so I'm not sure of the first letter of
the name. My Avoyelles-born grandmother's (b. 1907) middle name was
Seville, and I haven't found the name used anywhere else in her family.
Could it be that the families I've transcribed should actually be Sev
Many thanks to everyone who answered my question about the Deville/Seville
name. It's unanimous-the name's DEVILLE, although it seems there are
Sevilles in other parts of the state. And, unlike some lists, everyone who
answered was nice! Thanks again!
