I do not know who the parents of Rufus Winter Payne are. That is why I was requesting a look-up, was hoping there was some clue. I have the descendants of Winter. According to the 1900 Census, Winter was born in 1850 in Mississippi and his father was born in GA and mother in AL.

Could your Great Grandmother be the Eliazbeth listed in the Henry Green (white) household in the 1870 Claiborne County census. She is listed as 'Mullatto' on the census. There was also Sarah(black), Julia(black) and a baby Richard (mullatto). Elizabeth was 4 years old at the time.
