1. SANNE [1]
Hello, I'm new to this list. Is anyone researching the name SANNE in the Liverpool- Birkenhead area? Edwin Theobald SANNE was born on 1 July 1842 in Stettin, Prussia (now Szczecin, Poland) and baptised on 28 August 1842 at the church of St. Jacobi. At some stage he moved to England as a timber merchant and married Mary Ann HUGHES. I have found the birth records of their 8 children but have found no record of their marriage in the "St Cath's" index. In the 1881 census for Aughton, Lancs, and

4. A SALFORD JEWEL/JOULE [0.964068]
Hi Sandy, When I looked up your JOULE family a few weeks ago in the 1851 census for Salford, I had know idea I was looking for such an important person. I was leafing through one of my Xmas pressies and came upon an article on James Prescott JOULE 1818 - 1889 . He established the the principle of the mechanical equivalent of heat and his name was given to the unit of work, the JOULE.( I am sure you know this ) There is a nice picture in the book of James Prescott JOULE and for any other Salfordians ther

8. Re: S&N and libel action [0.964068]
Hi Heather: Piffle to them...I think they would have a hard time proving libel because if memory serves me to that they must prove that your intent was to ruin their reputation or something like that, when, as you say, you were merely "comparison shopping" for your list mates. Whatever you do don't let it scare you into leaving the list. I am sure that the reason for their lack of good will was a fear that the information would cut into their sales...which it probably will. Of course the nasty nature of

11. S&N and libel action [0.964068]
I print in full a copy of an e-mail I received from S & N Supplies regarding their costing of the British Vital Records Index. Which threatens me with libel action unless I retract a statement I made regarding the profits they make on the sale of these CD's. If the figures they quote are correct then I must unreservedly retract the statement I made with regard to their profits. On a personal note I feel that as a commercial company S & N Supplies have gone over the top trying to frighten a grandmother

13. Re: USA Census-NYC 1881-98 [0.964068]
Two censuses exist, for at least some areas of what is now NYC, for this time period. Neither census provides as much information as the Federal Census of 1890 (which no longer exists, due to fire, etc.).... The 1st was a "Manhattan Only" census which lists the name and ages of adults and children. This is on film at the NYC Dept. of Records, Municipal Archives, 31 Chambers Street- ROOM 103, New York, NY 10007 phone (212) 788-8580 . According to the archives info. sheet, they will conduct a se

16. Re: [Fwd: St Cath's] [0.964068]
Thanks to everyone re help with St Cath's. It seems pretty apparent that not every LDS has them. By my reckoning a full set would cost about $260 U.S. I'm wondering if I order just some of them, do they come alphabetical, or in date order? -- Millie Marino(mmarino@frontiernet.net) researching the following: BALSHAW...................in Lancs BANHAM.......in Norfolk and Lancs MARINO ........in Pozzallo, Sicily RENDA in Motta S.Anastasia, Sicily
17. Vital Record Index & S&N supplies [0.964068]
Hi All I have just received the latest price list from S & N supplies and was horrified to see that they are selling copies of the LDS British Vital Record Index for a cost of #25.84. I receive my copy direct from the LDS last week for a price of #13.50 including pp. Now I know that comercial companies have to make a profit but to make almost 100% (91.4 to be exact) on an item that they had no involvment in the production of seems gross profiteering to me, incidentally they are selling the Australian Vit
18. Re: Adoption [0.964068]
In Canada we have a group called Parent Finders of which I am a member. It was where I received my training in researching family mystery (history to those who know who they are looking for) I do not know if anyone does this in Britian but I hope so for your sake. Good luck Hi all and Ref, above mailing . Do they do anyother family history searches in Canada? i.e. Lost family members around the 1880's. Would appreciate any help on where to catch the bus !!!! 20. 1851 Census or other records - Help! [0.964068]
Hi List, What I am asking is not for anyone to do a specific search or anything of that nature, BUT, if they happen to come across a JAMES CUNLIFFE during their research could they possibly remember and jot down anything that may lead me to the correct person. I'm seeking (forlornly) my GGG Grandfather's, JAMES CUNLIFFE, whereabouts in 1841 &/or 1851. (if still living) & the mention of a wife's name. The only indication of his name is on his son's marriage certificate of 1839 (Levi Cunliffe to Rachel Bi

I am looking for any and all information on Readyhough and Redihalgh (two regional forms of the same name), originally from a medieval village in Lancashire and spread over Lancashire and Yorkshire. Mine were from Kirkstall, I think parish of Chapel Allerton, near Leeds and in Leeds, where they lived for atleast two generations. The father of my emigrant ancestor, John Readyhough, married Martha Austin, before 1826, probably in or near Leeds; I didn't find a record of this marriage in the IGI, or any othe
