1. [LANCSGEN-L] surname ockleshaw. [1]
Hi Liz Thanks for your quick response, the name Ockleshaw is an old Lancashire name Anglo Saxon and has survived through the years since your lot down in Hasting Let the frogs in around 1066.But I must admit the spelling has changed over the years. We have Okilshaw Occkleshawe, etc. There is a story that a father and six sons each had a different spelling for the name.I feel that if a C or a Br were omitted down the line I would still have problems finding them.By the way I was in your neck of the woods
2. [LANCSGEN-L] MASSAM in 4th Bn, The King's [1]
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission just provided some details on Private John William Massam, 4th Bn., The King's (Liverpool Regiment). This has moved us beyond one of our stumbling blocks. Can anyone tell me where to turn now to find the details of Massam's death in action in France during WW I? Is there a web site for military units that might provide some leads? And I still haven't found his date and place of birth. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Bernie Gately bgately@mystech.com Research
