John, I've used these two URLs in conjunction with a street map bought
locally at Barnes and Noble when my memory of what street is in what ward
in my hometown fails me.

Edward John THEARD married Isabelle BOUNY on June 24, 1884.

Does it happen to y'all, while doing research...come across names of
people your parents knew? In the census, I am seeing Cole, Aunt Ediths'
husbands name then there is Granger, Forest and Cryer, Jr. He was
always called Junior Cryer:). These folks I knew in Rockport,Tx.
Shrimpers and Forest had a motel there, we'd stay at times...were we
related to them? Kids called everyone "aunt and uncle" (Good manners
you know:) But how many were Aunts and Uncles FOR REAL? The more I
learn the less I know, so it s

Can anyone interpret for me the first two columns on the 1870 census
sheets? I looked at them on microfilm and found my gggrandfather. But I
couldn't read the labels for the first two columns to know what the
numbers in those columns may have meant.
What was exciting, I not only found my gggrandfather William
Hullinghorst and his wife Josephine and son, Henry, beneath them -
neighbors, I presume - was the Anseman family. Henry married Eloise
Anseman!
Also, where was the 8th ward in NO back in 1870? I read
Christine (Reeb) SONNEMEYER was born in Alsace April 1817. She died 30
December 1894 in New Orleans. Believe she was widow of a Henry Sonnemeyer.
Does anyone have any information or recognize this name?

Hi All,
My name is Diane Hall. The surnames I am looking for are Adam and Marie
Drott and Karl and Marie Drott. Karl was a tailor on Magazine St. circa 1870.
Marie Langenstein was listed as a midwife. Karl is said to have come to New
Orleans in 1862. That was when New Orleans was occupied. Is there some way I
can find him during the war? I don't know where he lived before coming to New
Orleans. Any ideas?
Thank you,
Diane
Hello Heather,
I don't know where you obtained the marriage certificate, but there are also
marriage bonds available from the Louisiana Department of the New Orleans
Public
Library. My 2nd great grandmother was not of age, so her brother had to sign
and her husband to be had to have a witness sign with him too. I haven't
used
that information yet, but it might help when I go to passenger lists if both
my gg grandmother and her brother are on the list.

At 09:14 PM 04/04/1999 +0000,
Is there anyone doing research on the surname DEMAR? Margaret SCHEHR
married Charles DEMAR in Orleans Parish around the 1860s. I don't know
if any descendants survived Margaret's death in New Orleans in 1895.
Also, the surname JENSEN. Catherina SCHEHR married a J.C. JENSEN
also around 1860s in Orleans Parish. Catherina died 1883 in New Orleans,
and I am uncertain of any descendants.
For the record, my primary surnames are BISCHOF & SCHEHR who
emigrated to New Orleans in the 1840s and ROLANDELLI & S
Louisa (Reeb) was born in Germany (Alsace?) September 1814. She died 4 March
1888 at 192 Josephine Street in New Orleans. Believe she was widow of A.
Werner. Based upon information in her death record, Louisa (Reeb) Werner
came to New Orleans circa about 1840. I would like to hear from any
descendants or anyone who might have information on her or her family.

This is from my friend in Pa. and these are family names she is
searching for. She has looked sooo many places, it would be funny if
they've been on this 40 miles of the river "The German Coast"ALL ALONG
. Anyone know of them?
Thank you,
Alice

My ggrandfather ALOYSIUS WETZEL, according to his death notice, came to
this country about 1850 when he was two years old from Alsace-Lorraine.
As far as I know he lived out his life in New Orleans and died there in
the 1890's.. His parents (on his marriage license) are JOHN WETZEL and
CRISTINA (____?). Does anyone have any hints as to where I can start
looking for JOHN and CRISTINA?
Thanks in advance for any help or hints.

I am still researching any information on my gfather, Jacob Bohler. The New
orleans 1870 census shows him living in the 3rd ward with his wife, Alice and
three daughters, Theresa 15, Rosalie 4 and Alice 3. I cannot find any
information on him either before or since that date. If anyone has any
information on this line, I will be happy to exchange any information I have.

Denis,
There was a piece on MSNBC Tech News that led me to that Jeeves thing.
I just checked and of course no it's no longer there. Maybe someone
