I know that Randazzo's Bakery in Chalmette made it at one time and they
are still in operation and have a web site. I don't know the exact web
address, but when I want to go there, I just type in "Randazzo's Bakery"
(without the quotes) and it the web link comes up.

If you know a date of death for the person you're looking for, if you write Greenwood Cemetery, they will look that person up for you in their interment records and tell you where in the cemetery they are buried. They'll also look in their computer records. Those records start later...the earlier burials aren't in the computer...but they'll tell you who else is on their computer who is buried in that location.

You may be able to find old ads etc from the N.O.Public library:
http://www.nutrias.org they have microfilm of old newspapers there.
If you can't get into town to do the reserch, perhaps the archivist at the
library could do a search for you,(the library could tell you more about
the charge to do this)
or you could hire someone to do the search for you.

Hi I can help with the Russian Cake. I owned a bakery in Slidell. I will always believe we had the best. From Kathy's Just Desserts. Russian Cake is a mixture of all the cake in the bakery including cuttings from the Doberge Squares. The mixture was equal parts of our Strawberry and Raspberry fillings with 2 oz Rum Flavoring. This was mixed with 2 #'s sugar and hot water. All was folded together then placed in a frame and pressed overnight with two 50# bags of sugar. Then cut into portions and frozen. Lat

I was going through old stuff of my grandfathers, and came across
a 1965 copy of the military newspaper, Stars and Stripes. I don't
want it, but I know that people collect all sorts of stuff. I did tool
around the net, without success. I thought I would ask on this list -
at least it is tangentially related. Is there a collector for old issues?

I too have wondered why I have not been receiving any emails from the list.
Just because Colleen is on vacation does not mean we cut the ties of the list.

Hi Pat,
I don't think so. To my knowledge, it was always refered to as St. Louis
Cathedral. However, while I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, there was a
Catholic grammar school in town called St. Louis King of France.

Mary,
On a 1874 marriage record that I have, it lists Owen Riedy as the Pastor
and the church the marriage took place as German Evangelical Lutheran Church.
This marriage was also recorded in the records of Salem Evangelical and
Reformed Church, (now Salem United Church of Christ) on Milan and Camp St.
So I am guessing the name of the church was changed???
Hope this helps,
Christine
Hi Shelly,
I am descendant of Anne Marie Corbin Bachemin who married 1st: Pierre Dreux
and 2nd: (my ancestor) Jonathan d'Arby. I have also come across Anne's name
written as Anne Corbin DeBachemin. Anne was the daughter of Jean Marie
Baptiste Corbin dit Bachemin and Judith Anne Marie le Hardy. Jean Marie
Baptiste Corbin dit Bachemin was the son of Jean Corbin. Unfortunately, I
did not write down my sources for this information. Info on Anne's first
husband came be found in the book "Creole Famili

Hi Karen,
Yup, I can help you. The certificate says Co. Roscommon. In the last few
years, all the counties have set up heritage centers where the Catholic
church records have been computerized. Since mandatory civil registration
did not start until 1865 in Ireland, the Catholic church records tend to be
spotty, the further back you go. (The Church of Ireland records tend to be
much better.)
Here is the homepage of the Co. Roscommon Heritage Center:

I have used PAF, Ultimate Family Tree and FTM and I think PAF is the easiest to use. Besides being free from the LDS site,
familysearch.org you'll have all the options you will want. As Helene said, try it and after you have used it for a while you can always change to something else if you don't like it and it won't have cost you anything.
