--WebTV-Mail-11376-57 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit I'm sorry, Cheramie, you asked about "Roll Book" and "EXCT: At the start of your school classes the teacher would "Call the roll." A "roll" was a list of all the students in the class and this list was most often kept in a bound book, hence "Roll Book." The teacher would read aloud the names from the roll book and the students would answer "here" or "present". ( Of course, you know what would happen if the

4. [LAORLEAN-L] Death Index [1]
Can someone help me? I am trying to determine when my Great-Grandmother, Josephine Elizabeth Sohl (maiden name is Lorentz); husband is John Sohl. On the 1910 Census, John was listed as a widower so I know that at the time of the taking of the 1910 Census Josephine was dead. They lived on St Philip Street in New Orleans. Any information concerning this martter will be appreciated. Barbara in Florida

Hey! Is this DUHE line descended from Jacque DUHE born circa 1635 in Le Cateau, France, married to Jeanne ROSINIOL? I am descended from that DUHE line through Adele DUHE, b 1876, d 1961. 7. RE: [LAORLEAN-L] Lookup [1]
There are dozens of Fabre families in Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge Parishes listed in the 1900 Census, but no Jennie. Looked through most of the families and also did not find a Jennie, but her name might have been something else and Jennie was a nickname. If you can get more info, or other names of family members, will be happy to search again. Jan S -----Original Message----- From: Alton J. Did I see that someone knows about cemetery records? I was wondering if the City of New Orleans has cemetery records (or index) available for viewing. Here's my thing: my dad's mother's family is all buried in Lafayette #1 on Washington and Prytania Streets. The tomb reads "Tierney" at the top. I am sure that it was passed on to them from their grandfather, Michael Tierney and his family. Unfortunately, there have been so many people buried there, that the old tomb stone has been discarded and

You can write to Greenwood Cemetery for information. I have found them to be extremely helpful. And they prefer to recieve your request in writing. Greenwood Cemetery 5200 Canal Blvd New Orleans LA 70124 For some reason, lately I have found it difficult to get information from Metaire Cemetery. I have the feeling that their records are stored in all sorts of different places, depending on the time frame, and that if your request isn't extremely clear cut, it doesn't get a response. And I seem to do b
17. [LAORLEAN-L] DAUER & DILLENKOFFER Surnames [1]
Hello from Kansas City... I've got two brick walls --- John Valentine Dauer, an ancestor from Lauterbourg, France (along the Germany border) was born in 1827 and moved to New Orleans in 1855. He was an immigration agent in France and operared a grocery at 124 Marais St, NOLA. I have a copy of his journal (initially in French and later in English). Complete with official rubber stampings from France it looks a lot like a passport in the earlier stages. However, he listed the births and deaths of his ch

Where ever the drawing was made from doesn't matter to me. What does move me is that my Billets - Christian Carl (Charles) Billet and his brother, my grandfather, Rudolph Maximillian Billet, arrived on a sailing boat from Baden in New Orleans in that very year! This is what they saw! At last I can imagine with more clarity their arrival, the sorrow in losing children either on the journey or immediately after. (Wish I could find them.) However this happened to be posted, it is a gift to me and my f
21. Re: [LAORLEAN-L] Jason Gerard -- Gambling on Sunday? [1]
Norm, Thank you so very much. I am pretty sure this is my Jason as his daughter-my gggrandma listed her birthplace on her marriage license as Greenpoint, NY. I have found Jason living in Orleans Parish, Louisiana from at least 1839-1846-his children's birth records are on file there. He is in the directory there in 1842, but not 1851. I know he moved to NY between 1846 (birth of child born in Orleans)-1850 census. I know he is there in NY in the 1850 cnsus which someone sent to me awhile back, but
