Vic,
In Springfield, Illinois, visitors to Lincolns Tomb
rub the nose of a statue outside for good luck. You
can see his shiny nose here:
http://www.iconnect.net/home/jane/springf7.html
The funny thing is that inside the tomb, there are
small replicas of other Lincoln statues. Each of these
little Lincoln noses gets rubbed. And some of the
statues have Lincoln on horseback, and the little
horses noses get rubbed too.
Go figure!

Hi, Peggy!
I saw the article in the Times Picayune this morning also and was intrigued
too. I don't remember going to a "home" funeral - I may be a little young,
but I do remember my grandparents being in mourning (for whom I don't
remember) and I wasn't able to turn on the radio or the television in their
house for weeks. Also there was a black something-or-other on the front
door. It wasn't a wreath, as we know it today, but "something" black was
there.

Hi List -
I found this while 'surfing'
http://www.state.lib.la.us/Publications/US/ancestors2003.pdf
It's titled "Searching for Your Louisiana Ancestors on Microfilm"
Peggy
PS - mine weren't that small, but I printed it anyway ;)

Thank you, Rita. You get an A for trying.
I am going to try my little library here in Podunk, TX to see if they can
find it for me on interlibrary loan. After all, they did find Rau's book
for me!
Thanks again,
Emma in Lake Jackson, TX

My grandfather and one of his brothers also worked on the Panama Canal. I
have tried to find info on his working there with no luck. Even though he
lived in New Orleans he did contract Malaria from being there.

Linda, I found Robert Emmett Toal's obit in the Times Picayune on Dec. 10,
1911, the date Norm gave you and is on the death index.
I met Jan Wise at the library and she will scan the obit to you when she
gets home in East Texas tomorrow. It does not mention he was buried in
Greenwood. There was no obit for him Nov. 10, 1914.

Hi all,
Does anyone know if "Yatzee", or something that sounds like that, is a nick
name for another name? The person in our family known as Yatzee was a woman of
Italian heritage.
Margo
Betty,
I would be interested in any Hussey names you have in your line. My husband's gggrandfather was Michael P. Hussey who married his wife, Ann Keenan, in NO on June 10, 1847. Several of their children were born in NO as well. I have no further information on any other Hussey's. Michael & Ann eventually moved to Galveston where the last few children were born.

Hello Folks,
I just discovered that I only have 3 more ship lists to transcribe and the New
Orleans passenger lists for Jan, Feb & March 1845 will be done. Send brownies! :)
I've also just discovered that approximately 3300 total passengers arrived in New
Orleans from foreign ports during this time. Send LOTS of brownies! :)
Regards,
Joe
PS-I just finished one more. Only two left!!

New Orleans Passenger Lists - Filling in the Gaps 1845 & 1847
http://www.genesearch.com/neworleans/
HI Emma,
I think the problem is that when you got my email, the hotlink or the URL,
however it came through, arrived on two lines because it was too long for a
single line. When you copy and paste into yoru browser, it is messed up.
So tyr typing the URL in by hand.
Anyway, go to the homepage, however you get there, and look under the
hospital records. It really is there.
Colleen
Penny, I have some 1915 death files, not sure the names right now, as I'm at my daughters but I know the files have Smith's in them. Should be getting them to you by tomorrow night. Betty (grumpysmom)
Cheryl,
The book "German People of New Orleans 1850-1900" does not include an index
of names. Unfortunately!!!!

I have a copy of Korn's. I believe the book is now considered a
collectible, so if you do find a copy, it's likely to be pretty
expensive. NOPL and Jeff Library have it in their collections..
Another great place to research early Jewish ancestors is Malcolm
Stern's book, Americans of Jewish Descent, which is available at NOPL
and Jeff Library. Also should be available at most major libraries.

Hi Gang,
Dee has a box of marriage announcements that she has been collecting from
recent newspapers that she needs help transcribing. These are like the obtis she
has been working on, only for marriages instead. they are the kind that
usually appear with a picture of the bride or of the new couple. You will have to
transcribe from the images she scans. Please give either one of us an
e-holler if you can help out.

Try St. Katherine's - I believe it was catty-cornered from St. Joseph's on
Tulane Ave - torn down many years ago.

I want to thank everyone for their help. This is such a good list. Gene, the
obits I received were from the Times Picayune. I will start checking on
these new leads.
Thanks again,

Hi NOVA,
Just uploaded more admission records form Charity Hospital. We now have
through September 15 finished, plus the names from Sept 16 and Sept 17 online.
This means there are only 100 days left to this year to complete, and then the
entire year will be online.

In the death records for 1915 , K-R, it seems they are a
repeat of the 1913 deaths. Are the no deaths for K-R for
1915? I am looking particularly for LAPORTE. Thanks, Tommie

Colleen,
Heres an example for you regarding the birth index.
I have found that one of the more important features
of the NOVA online version of the Orleans Parish civil
birth indexes is the ability to search the index in a
variety of ways. These include not just on the childs
name, but on the names of the parents as well,
especially the mother's maiden name. Searching can
also be done on part of a name. Ancestry.com only
allows searching using wildcards after the first three
letters of the name. On the

Hi Millie and List!
Try this wonderful website: www.addall.com. They have both new and used
databases. I order everything from the used part, because they arrive in
like-new condition.
