1. [LATTA] US immigration, Ellis Island [1]
Dear Isa; Here is something that will keep you busy. It is the Ellis Island Immigration list: www.ellisislandrecords.org/ You can print out this information. There are plenty of Europeans mentioned. Where you see several entries for the same name it is likely because he was a sailor, and came and went for several trips. You can figure this out by the age at each arrival. Let me know if you are successful in printing it out. Alex. Latta, Br. #16 Edmonton, Alberta Canada
2. [LATTA] John Latta SC 1771 [1]
In the South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research, Winter 1977, No. 1, page 38, Charleston Deed Book T - 3, John Latta was a witness, 16 Jan 1771, before judge John Gaston to a land grant dated 5 June 1770 to Jesse Vinson of St. Mark's Parish. Connie

Thanks Virginia for bringing the article to my attention. I have re-thought my position and agree it would not be a wise move to publish information for all to use. Colleen (Latta) Miller Br.#1

5. [LATTA] New branches [1]
Good evening, everyone; The more branches that we have to look at the better to compare. However, I'd like to suggest that I start a collection of new branches that would have a special designation such as "Branch "A" Pending", etc. They would remain as such for up to one year giving researchers a chance to compare with existing branches. I have come across a number of very short branches, and would like a minimum number of "deceased" persons before they would constitute a branch. If Treva can send me
6. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta Branch 43 [1]
Carolyn, Do you have any information on John Causlett Latta's father and grandfather, William Latta and Isaac Latta? Also, in reading RHL's data, it apears that John Causlett Latta served in both the Union (57th Ill. Reg) and Confederate (1st Alabama Cav.) Armies during the Civil War. Can you shead some light on this? Tom Kintigh Branch #3 Tucson, AZ
7. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta - Indiana Latta [1]
Sue, What did you find on goggle.com, a web site with this information? 1 John Latta of branch supposedly settled in Washington County, PA. It is highly unlikely that his children would have gone east to Bedford County. Looking at a map I noticed that Woodsfield, Ohio, Tyler County, WV and Washington County, PA are all pretty close to each other. Where did the seven daughters and oldest son William come from? That is not in RHL's data for branch 17. Tom Kintigh Branch #3 Tucson, AZ

Dear Connie - Thank you - Richard (Family Group 8)
9. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta Branch 43 [1]
Carolyn: I am also interested in whether or not you have any information on John's brother Abraham. Abraham had a son named John who lived in West Virginia. I did find a record in Sistersville, WV (Tyler County) for a John Latta and Mary Latta who had a son named George who died there. I could not place them in my branch, who also migrated from Huntingdon County, PA (Huntingdon was a part of Bedford at one time) into West Virginia. Sue Lattea Cox Br. 17
10. [LATTA] Right on [1]
Virginia; That is the general consensus, regarding posting living persons. We will use that approach throughout. If, by accident, a posting is made that should not have been, I would hope those concerned will let us know at once. Thanks, Alex. Br. #16, Edmonton

Sue, At this web site: http://www.pa-roots.com/~bedford/ under cemetery records and locations, E & W Providence Twps, I found photos and a partial listing for Providence Union Church and Cemetery. There is Abrham Sparks and Sarah Sparks listed but no pictures. She is not listed by her married name of Latta? Also there is a picture of the headstone for William Latta, died Sept 8, 1877 -68 yrs, 2 mos, 17dys; indicating that he was born June 22, 1809. RHL's data says that Isaac died when William was small.
13. [LATTA] Re Latta Br 19 & 27 family web site [1]
I have just started the web site for branch 19 & 27 on MyFamily.Com, which is a branch of Ancestry.com. For several years, this has been a free service. Knowing Ancestry, as I do, I was not surprised to see the free space go away. As of June 23, all of the sites will be paid sites. They gave a big discount for this year, so I upgraded my other sites, but there has not been enough activity on the Latta site to make it worth my while to pay for it. Unfortunately, I have not had much time to locat

Sue, A likely possibility. It could have been Julia's nickname. I have never come across anyone named Indiana, except in the movies - and I've seen some really strange names. Growing up, my best friend's real name was Darwin but his nickname was "Zeke" and that is what everyone knew him by. A lot of people had no idea it was just a nickname. It would be interesting to check the court documents concerning the estate of Isaac Latta in Bedford County and see who is listed. The next question is, who is Isaac
15. [LATTA] John Latta [1]
Hello List, Does anyone have a John Latta, born about 1815-1830 (I know this is a big time span)....in Tennessee? Thanks much. Connie Latta Branch #52 Captain So. Calif. "I believe in Christianity as I believe in the sun, not because I see it, but because by it I see all things."
16. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta - Indiana Latta [1]
Hi Tom: I have been to Huntingdon County, PA and looked at their microfilm tax records. I found a son William, son George, son John and son Abraham. Also daughter Rebecca was taxed for a horse. We had a daughter Catharine who married an Isaac Burns. They moved to Iowa, where they are picked up in the 1850 census. I also picked up a deed in Bedford County where John Latta bought 400 acres from a James Daily in 1774, located at Shirley, PA. The 1790 census listes John as having 2 sons over 16, 1
17. Re: [LATTA] John Latta SC 1771 [1]
Connie; This should be interesting to Br. #12, who had a John in that area about that time. He returned to Antrim in order to educate his sons, and died there. I believe he was a son to Robert Latta who gave his land in Killenny to his other son Samuel. Samuel had a brother or a son who also died at Killenny, named William. This was the end of the direct Latta line, and the present owner of Killenny is John Riddles, who is decended from one of William's daughters. Alex. Latta, Br. #16 Edmont
18. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta - Indiana Latta [1]
Sue, I looked through both the Sur-name and Inlaw indexes and didn't see anything that might match this family. It is interesting that they lived in Bedford County, PA because hardly any Lattas did. Most came over the moutains to Westmoreland. The one reference to Bedford County I found in RHL's data was Branch #32: "William (2) lived in Bedford Co., Pa. and died about 1814. No Issue." This could be an error about his death and no issue. The age is certainly right. Branch #32 is a mystery since only the d

20. [LATTA] 6 or 7 branch Please help [1]
I forgot the branch #! I went to the branch site and tried a search for Dyer in 6 & 7 and did not find the name. They had a daughter Lucy who died a few days after she was born. I would like to find information of her death and that of her father Thomas. He was born February 23, 1851, died March 28, 1885 LATTA, Thomas and Marian DYER married 29 Dec 1875, Book 14, page 395 - Wm. E Kellan, Surety. Married at St. Louis Catholic Church. 21. [LATTA] Andrew Roulston [1]
Folks; I have a copy of the registry of deeds (1891), for Andrew Roulston, of Castlethird, Co. Donegal. Also a picture of the dwelling, still in good repair. It was subsequently owned by Joe Gamble and his sister, Anne. It has since been sold again. Also copies of deeds for the following, all appearing to cover the same land. For: James Latta, Cassie McKnoght, James Boyd. Also, maps describing the above mention lands. Anyone interested? (Tom?) Alex. Latta, Br. 16 Edmonton
22. Re: [LATTA] Re: Latta - Indiana Latta [1]
Sue, Have you looked at Branch #43? This is one branch that stayed in Bedford County for several generations. Isaac Latta had a son and a grandson named William. The names of Isaac's wives are unknown. One of them may have been Sarah Sparks. Working back from the birth dates of children and grandchildren, Issac appears to have been born circa 1785. Is there a possible connection between branches 17 & 43? The Bedford County deed for land in Shirley, PA interests me. I didn't find any Shirely on the map in
23. Re: [LATTA] 6 or 7 branch Please help [1]
I have found funeral and death notices in the local newspapers for deaths in that time period. If they lived in a small town, you have a particularly good chance of finding a mention of it. Newspapers can be ordered on Microfilm through interlibrary loan by your local public library. I have found much information from area newspapers. Good luck! Floreeda, Texas-lots of those. I have always thought that if the families are really big, they run out of ideas, and name them after the state, town, or country.
