I received the Taughboyne book today from Bill Latta. I'll get it out as
soon as possible to Sue Cox, BUT I'll have 5 house guests for the next week
or so, plus 17 for Christmas dinner. Weekend after Christmas,
hopefully. Harriet Latta

Hi, Sue, Don't forget (as I have occasionally) that this is a will for
McKnight. So the sons are McKnights, not Lattas. We don't really know if
this John Latta ever went to North Carolina, since he was a witness to the
will, which, presumably, was written in Chester Co. PA. The way I read it
is that McKnight owned some property in Chester County, PA, but probably
died in North Carolina. Do you see it differently? It's definitely worth
analyzing.
This is the sort of subtle clue that points to Latta i

Thank for the great report on DNA. I'm sure there will be wide interest. There are less than 60 branches of Lattas, at present, so if we could solicit samples from all of them, we would have a fantastic record of relationships. Everyone would have to recognize that their father might not be who they think he is.
There was the story told by a child in "show & tell", in his school. He reported that the occupation of his father was a traveling salesman, and was out of town a lot.
Thanks to Virginia and Alex for clarifying what the book covers.
I'll pass on reading the book right now. I have been haivng wonderful success on my Italian lineage and want to devote my energy to that for now.
I will keep looking for any news concerning my branch #46.
Hope you all are enjoying Sunday!!
Linda in N/Cal.

Dear Colleen, Dad tells me you were interested in the passenger
lists that are on the
Ellis Island Web Site. This url was originally posted by someone on
our rootsweb link.
When doing a name search for a variant spelling of LATTA, I used
"Lahtte" if I remember
correctly. Twenty variants of this spelling were generated , including
"LATTO".
So when trying this link you could try many of the variants as listed
in the latta genealogy
newsletter as not all will come up with the search parameters
Another of my lines has already done a dna project (for the life of me I
can't think which one it is right now ... sigh ...) but they only wanted
males. The results should be out soon, and I hope I remember who they are by
then! Oh! I just did ... it was Barton. You can read about it at GenForum on
the Barton list.

Hi, Sue, I was rereading your posting and see that you didn't mention that
"John Latta" was a witness to this will, presumably in 1750 in Chester
County. It still is a mystery to me, but connection with the known branch 8
in that area at that time seems likely.
Happy Holidays to all our Latta cousins!

There is a group of records "Trees Planted in Raphoe 1702", which lists
William "Lattaove" (Latta) and James Teat (Tait) & partners as having
planted 7 trees as part of this project. Unfortunately, the townland for
William was unclear, so I wrote to the webmaster. She passed my messa
Hi,
To any who have read the book that's now circulating;
Is there any mention of Rachel Todd-Latta? Rachel was a cousin to Mary Todd Lincoln. Rachel married Moses Latta as described in br.46's details on the latta.org website.
I would be interested in reading the book if there is any mention of this branch.
Thanks,
Linda in N/Cal.

Hi, All.
I'm going to post the list of those who requested the books that Alex
purchased, "In the Footsteps of St. Baithin", which is the history of the
parishes in the Taughboyne, Donegal area where some Latta ancestors lived.
Our system is that one person reads it and sends it to the next person on
the list. Finally, it will be returned to me. Ultimately, we will deposit
it wherever we decide to have our Latta information available.
Could the person who now is reading the book send me a message so tha
Hi Folks,
I'm still stuck in the same spot. I am looking for information on the
Latta's who were in Kansas in 1860's.
I am specifically looking for a L.J. Latta or a T.J. Latta. Wife's name was
Missouri.
Thanks much.

Hi, Virginia, A few more details would help, such as where these people
were last known to live, where born, where living in between. Do you know
the parents names, etc.
Try posting a bit more info.

Very quiet lately. Good idea to post info. I presume you have checked out
those who used spelling variations, such as "Latty". I believe there were a
number of those in the midwest about that time. Of course, these were the
same families as "Latta" or other variations.
and you've gone through all the Latta branches at ?
Good luck,

Hi, all,
In December, our Seattle Genealogical Society had a session by Dr. Anna
Chavelle, a retired physician, in which she presented information about the
meaning of the Human Genome Project for Genealogy. Alex Latta has expressed
interest in this topic in the past, and asked me to pass on notes from the
session.
I just got around to synthesizing my notes, and thought some others of you
might be interested in hearing so information on this topic. So -- here
goes:

I have recently added my research into Branch 13 unto Rootsweb. I thought that this might be the easiest way in which I could share my research. I sincerely hope that this will be of some small assistance to others.
I have tried to include all the source information, I have not yet add those who have contributed to this research, such as Ted Rinness and Bruce Weir. I hope that on my next update that I will include their credits to their research.

Hi, All
Doc Huer is going to be taking over the Latta Genealogy Newsletter, and I am
going to assume primary responsibility of the funds. (The funds currently
are donations for the newsletter and donations for our Northern Ireland
Research. We'll have an accounting for each in the next newsletter.) I
plan to set up the bank account so that Doc also will have access to the
funds.
Doc and I have been talking about how to set up the account so that the tax
liability is clear. This issue is probably not
