Hello, Paul. Glad to hear you're back home and on the road to recovery.
I'm sure it will take time to fully return to normal, but hopefully each
day will be better. I find that when I'm "laid up", it provides good time
for thinking. I tend to get a lot of ideas -- of course, far more than I
can do. But thanks for sharing your ideas with us.
I'm continuing to collect information regarding Ireland research. I was at
the Seattle Genealogical Society yesterday, and found that they have a

I have a question. When we do our research in Ireland, should be include
related families? There could be a number of them, including Allison,
Rankin, Taylor, etc. If you believe we should, do you want to send me
your names for related families that probably originated in the same area
as the Latta's? Actually, sometimes looking at related lines can provide
clues for ancestors who are otherwise elusive.
What do you think?

Does anyone recognize the Alexander Latta (m. Mary J. ________ )who
enrolled in Co D 8th Regt MO Volunteer Infantry in June 1861. His papers
sayd he enrolled at El Passo Ills. He died at Trenton MO, January 6,
1882. I ordered his service papers thinking there might be some slight
chance that he might have been my great-grandfather, also Alexander Latta.
I'd be happy to give someone the papers if they can claim him. Any
takers?

I don't know if anyone else has found this yet, but I was searching the
Donegal Hearth Money Rolls of 1665 and found a John Lata and William Lata
(spelled with one "t"). They are listed under the Barony of Raphoe, Taghboyne
Parish.

I would love to have the L files that include Lassiter and Latta and the Adams

Sifting through Robert H. Latta's records I found these County Donegal
origins cited:
Londonderry ... Carrigans, Taughboyne Rectory ... Caisheygowen, Taughboyne
... Taughboyne Church, near St. Johnston ... Bready, St. Johnston.
(There are other origins listed, but I was interested only in County

By the way, I am sure St. Johnston, Johnstone and Johnstown all refer to the

Lastly, I vote for extending our search to distaff lines. The only

I think your idea about related families is excellent. I know that I've
found elusive ancestors who routinely traveled with their relatives and
also intermarried several times during different generations to be a very
good way to track them down. Just my 2 cents!

I have begun a data base with all the references to Lattas in Ireland that
we can find in preparation for our research in Northern Ireland. To
make our eventual research more efficient, could you do me a favor? Could
you list the web site address and also the source of the information --
where the person who posted it found the data? I think that will make our
research much more efficient if we have that information.
Alex Latta has done a good bit of research in Ireland. He has listed the

A brief posting. My branch in 22 (including note K). My earliest
verified ancestor is Matthew Latta, who first appeared in Woodford County,
KY as a taxpayer in 1790. He married Mary Williams (dau of John Williams
of Glens Creek) the same year. There must be other descendants of this
branch, becuse Matthew had a large family. One of his sons, Joh, stayed
in Kentucky, another moved to Gibson County, TN. My ancestor died in Clay
Township, Lafayette Co, MO, during the Civil War. His daughter and her

Hi, from the many e-mails, does this mean you all have found the WILLIAM
LATTA, of branch #1? The who married the Katherine/Jane Taylor? Is anyone
for sure?? Krismarie
Just so I don't get flooded with e-mail. I DONT have any KY land grants etc.
MY letter was just a toss back to Donna about some connections of Latta and
Luzader files she wanted. Now if anyone wants the LAtta Luzader connection
in Seneca Co.OH, let me know. THAT I have!!:)

I am sure that we were all glad to here directly from you this weekend and to

Sue,
I am Ellen Rowan Taylor, Branch 27, Alexander Rowan m Mary Latta,
daughter of Thomas Latta in Adams Co Pa in 1797. Your Donegal page just
got me back to the boat! I found Henry Rowan in the Hearth Rolls! That
is the same name as Alexander's father.
Unfortunately, I didn't find any Lattas. It is a great page, though,
with lots of information. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Now I know where to look!.

Robert H. Latta's Note O raises the possibility that the Lata/Latta listings
for Taughboyne parish in 1663 and 1665 are direct ancestors of Branch #1.

In regard to Randy Phillips' posting on the Donegal Hearth Money Rolls of
1665, I could not locate the barony of Raphoe or parish of Taghboyne, but
assume site is near the village of Raphoe, between Strabane and Letterkenny.
I did find a rundown of early County Donegal records at the following

Hi Everybody:
I was reading over all the earliest Lattas from all the branches trying to
figure out if and how they were related. At the end of Branch 4 the notes say
that several Latta brothers and their sons ran a flouring mill at Donegal and
Londonderry, Ireland. They owned a couple of schooners and delivered flour to
the Bristish Isles and decided to bring a ship of flour to America. 5
brothers came with the ship and 3 stayed in America. (Other branch notes say
they were James and John and an unkno

Hi to all on the mailing list. We received our first pledge today for
research in Ireland. It is great to be making a start to find our more
about our ancestors in Northern Ireland. Paul did a great job with the
article on the front page. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hi, Krismarie -- Obviously I got mixed up. I'll have to look back on my

Hi Virginia,
I think it would be interesting to include some of the 'other' names into
the search for Lattas. My 'other' name is Todd, as in Mary Todd Lincoln. My
g-g-g-g-grandmother was Mary's cousin and married Moses Latta. I know the
Todd's hail from Ireland too as I have quite a bit on them.
Anyway I vote in the affirmative,
Linda W. branch 46
Ps.
By the way I appreciate all the work you do on the behalf of all the
Latta's.
