Tom, have you have any response? Ken is looking for articles for the next newsletter. I don't think it would be realistic for me to volunteer at this point, because we are starting on our new home. I do still have Faley's books that Sherry mentioned. I'd be happy to lend them to you if you are interested. I'd imagine you might be occupied right now with your mother's estate. I know that those matters can take a surprising amount of time. Wish you well. Talk with you soon, Virginia On 3/12/03 7

Information on the Empress of Britain found at this URL: http://www.greatoceanliners.net/empressofbritain2.html . In March 1940, the Empress was sent to Australia and New Zealand to transport troops to Europe. On May 12th she left Freemantle in a troop convoy together with the Empress of Canada, Queen Mary, Aquitania, Mauretania and Royal Mail's Andes. In the autumn of 1940, the Empress of Britain was on trooping mission between England and Suez via the Cape. On her way back, she called at Cape To

Looking in the Sur-Name index of RHL's data, there is only one Dale Latta: 3 1900- Dale Humphrey (84). This the Branch #3 data for family 64. The name Dale is not included, only the middle name of Humphrey. The 1940 birth year seem to make him the correct age:
8. RE: [LATTA] Non Profit Latta Assocaition [0.985083]
Hello, here are some comments regarding this very worthwhile project. 1. Be sure and state in the body of the document that it is a non-profit organization. Perhaps under Article II Purpose 2.Under Article IV Officers, suggest the following: Sect 3. The President will be the chief executive officer of the Board. Sect 4. The Secretary, or a designated individual, shall keep the minutes of the meetings and shall attend to the giving and serving of all such notices on behalf of the Society and shall have

All this confusion of names made me look in the 1861 Cenus of Ireland, General Alphabetical Index to the Townlands and Towns, Parishes, and Baronies of Ireland. Here is what I found: There are 22 townlands in Ireland named "Roosky", 6 in County Donegal alone. This one must be the "Roosky" in question: County Donegal, Barony of Raphoe, Allsaints Parish, Londonderry Poor Law Union. There is a townland named "Ruskey" in County Londonderry, Barony of Keenaught, Drumachose Parish, Newtown Limavady Poor Law Uni

11. [LATTA] Ohio Latta's [0.985083]
I may have posted this once before, if so please excuse me. I have in my notes a JOHN LATTA d. July 10, 1883 age 64 years 11 months, and a NELLIE E.LATTA, wife of FRANK M. b. Aug. 6, 1853 d. Jan. 2, 1903, they are buried in Gahanna Cemetry, Franklin Co. Ohio. Can someone tell me who these Latta's could possibly be, are they related to the JAMES LATTA, also buried there. Thanks, Katy
12. Re: [LATTA] LATTA - Huntingdon Co. (Br. 17) [0.985083]
I'm surprised that a girl (daughter?) would be listed on the tax list. I thought maybe Rebecca was a widow of a Latta. That's a bit of information that I don't know. To be listed on the tax list, would a person have had to be living on their own, or might it be a daughter/son at home who owned something? Another question occurred to me when I saw your posting. What were you told as the interpretation of "freeman?" In Pennsylvania, I was told that it meant a person (man presumably) of voting age who
13. Re: [LATTA] Numbers game. [0.985083]
Alex, and everyone else, I'm going to take my groups to myfamily.com, and see how that works. I can do one for Br 27 and one for Br 19. I will find the addresses and invite them all. We can post pictures, and list names and addresses. For those who don't have e-mail, we will have to figure out another way to communicate. Everything can be cut and pasted into Word or some other program and be mailed out every so often. Also, it is private. On the other hand, I sure wouldn't post anything too perso
14. Re: [LATTA] Alex's research [0.985083]
Alex: Leaving inquiries is a great idea. Most family history society's ask you to leave your name and address and the family that you are researching. This is great to have if another person comes in researching the same family. The society in Huntingdon were very helpful to me. I missed this 4 years ago when I was up there because they were closed the day I went and I didn't get to talk to anyone.

Please feel free to check out the new web page at myfamily.com, even if you are not br 19 or 27. I put a couple of things on it, so it isn't what it will be. Just e-mail me and I will send you an invitation. You can look around and see if that would work for you, or stay for a while if you like. Thanks to everyone who has sent in suggestions regarding "the living". I saw nothing that I would disagree with. Randy had some good alternatives. Is this program is going to take a while, I am going to contact some people in the aspiring groups for their opinion. Whatever the final decision, everyone must feel comfortable with it. Thanks, Alex. Latta, Br. #16, Edmonton
17. [LATTA] Folio 2107 [0.985083]
Alex, I got the copy of Folio 2107 and the pictures today. There is a lot of information in the folio, but I have questions about some of the nomeclature. From what I can figure out, "Roosky" is the name of the farm and not a town/townland and "Cossroads" is another farm. Also, is "Bogay" (I see Bogay Hill on the map) a "district(?)" of Newtowncunningham or a townland? In 1902, John Lata is listed as being "of Roosky, Bogay, Londonderry"; but in 1946, Thomas Latta is listed as being "of Roosky, Bogay, Co
18. Re: [LATTA] New Branches [0.985083]
Dear Latta family members, I would like to see living members of the family included in the changes proposed by Alex. Latta (branch #16) as long as permission is granted. Although it would probably be much more trouble for Alex., I agree that is would be much easier to get in touch with other members of the family if anyone wishes to do so. Hi! I cannot over emphasize the importance of our Latta Newsletter becoming part of a non profit organization. To this end, Cindy Stiene has sent to me a preliminary draft copy of possible by laws that we might use. I plan to print them in the next newsletter, but I also wanted to obtain constructive suggestions on the by laws, and any further steps. Since this affects everyone, I wanted to ask for everyone's help. See the following: Subj:2nd try - By-Laws Date:5/27/03 11:13:17 AM Central Daylight Ti
21. [LATTA] Privacy of the Living Lattas [0.985083]
Hi! My mother in law, Janet Gerdes, who is branch one from Sarah Josephine Latta (1852-1939), has asked me to keep her family information confidential. Since Janet is like a second mother to me, I will respect her request. So as branch one captain, I listed all living people as "Still Living." Also, recall that many credit card companies use your mother's maiden name as a form of identification. So I recommend that you do not make it public. Your friend, Doc Huer@aol.com 28 May 2003
22. [LATTA] Re: Living or dead! [0.985083]
Alex, I didn't have a chance to weigh in on this yesterday so I will comment on it today. It's true that identity theft is a serious problem, and yes we do need to take some steps to protect the full identity of those that are living. As the head of security for a bank, I can tell how much damage can be done. However, I also feel that we still need to be able to narrow the field when talking about identity in a genealogical sense. I agree that providing a full name and full date of birth could be

Hi! As editor of the Latta Genealogy Newsletter, I am looking for some articles for our next newsletter. 24. Re: [LATTA] Re: Living or dead! [0.985083]
Randy, I agree with you. If we do not include these persons who are still living, we will loose the string for the next generation of genealogist. There are so many places on the internet that we can go to collect information on persons, I think as Alex stated that we need to get clearance from a family when we enter them into the system and we could use their acceptance as a source. 25. Re: [LATTA] LATTA - Huntingdon Co. (Br. 17) [0.985083]
Sounds like a very productive research trip, Sue. Did any of this surprise you, or were some of the individuals who were new to your line? I'm always looking for the origin of Branch 22. Where did Matthew Latta, who was in Woodford County KY come from? It seems likely that he was part of one of the east coast branches. It also seems likely that Alexander Latta/Latty, who showed up in Gallatin County KY around 1800 was his brother. Matthew and Alexander Latta both were on the tax lists for Woodford cou
