Dear Listers;
I have been on the move and watching the list but without time to dedicate to the program in the last few months.
I must respectively but quite stongly disagree with Sis. Gross' comments.
No one has the time to do what she is mentioning. I have been in most of the postions mentioned and can assure all of you that this is one path to professional clergy, particularly i
A (hopefully) final word on the TempleReady Reference Guide, from page 1 of that same guide:
"This reference guide contains instructions for using TempleReady. It is intended for members of the Church who are preparing their family names for temple ordinances. This guide will also help stake and ward family history consultants and Family History Center Staff as they help members use TempleReady. This reference guide is distributed only to TempleReady sites and stake and ward family history consultants."

At the beginning of this topic, the first problem was finding a place to
have the activity. Then we got sidetracked on the issue of what is
appropriate. I'd like to go back to the location problem.
We used to have our staff meetings repeatedly bumped from the rooms which we
had reserved at the stake center where our FHC is housed. One day I remarked
in the presence of our stake president that I felt like the FHC was the
"poor relative" who got only the hand-me-downs and left-overs. It was not

In the first case I assume if I had any idea
on how to carry out my stewardship and
fulfill my calling (and this did not go against
any church direction received to date)
that I would still have to take that
to the Bishop and have him approve each thing.

It is time to drop this subject. People are begining to leave the room...
and personally I am a little tired of hearing this debate myself
We could argue to doomsday which is right or wrong. I have my opinion just
like everyone else, but we each have to do what we think God tells us we can

Maybe some of us are on a different celestial phone line or there is static

Does someone know -- What is the best Mac genealogy program with LDS Support. We have a family with Mac computers who have an old version of Family Reunion. Is there a Mac update for this? They want to pick up their family history research and begin working on it again. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Will disks from Mac for Temple Ready have to be converted or what?
Thanks.
I believe that Family History Specialists is a general term, and may have
been used to describe a specific calling in the past. However, the handbook
, Administrative Guide fo Family History Centers, and the Family History
Center Operations Guide all refer to personnel as "staff members" whether
they "... serve on a called or volunteer basis..." (Family History Center
Operations Guide p.7 Section 3)

A new program that I am working on and the Bishop and ward council are also
working with me on this is called "The 444 Program-4-Generations 4- Every
family in 4- months." The object is to help complete a four generation
pedigree for every member and family in a four month period. This will be
starting in Jan (after the holidays) and it will be incorporated into every
program. The adults will be teaching how to use PAF, familysearch, how to
research etc. The missionary leaders and I will be workin
Hi Jackie
I don't know where you live, plus maybe you are a stake leader. I am a
ward family history consultant. I make phone calls to everyone (active in
our ward) and ask them if they would like to take the six week course in
genealogy. Most say yes. I'm in the process of installing PAF on all
member's computers. One goal is to find out the hometeachers of the
inactives and see if they have any interest in genealogy. I go in their
homes, or set up appointments to meet me at the library on my time

I disagree. Please show me chapter and verse that states this.
I rather recall quotes like "teach them correct principles
and let them lead themselves".
By the way, I full agree that some members have really messed
things up at various times. I could write a long boring
diatribe of those as well.

I am a stake family history consultant and some while ago, I read a
posting to the list about a consultant making a display in the foyer of
family history.
For my Christmas letter to our consultants , I thought I would make up a
page of suggestions on how to make an appealing display. If any of you
have made such a display or seen a display like this, I would really
like to hear from you.
I am specifically wanting to know what kind of things were in the
display, how often it was made, where in the church
We have one of our staff members who is about 75 years old. She was very
surprised to find herself listed in the Ordinance Index a few years ago
with ordinance work done and listed as dead. Someone had put in deceased
under death date and sent her name in to have the work done. She
actually had done her own work and she is definitely not dead. When she
contacted this person to ask her about it, she didn't have much to say
and didn't even apologize. So that just goes to prove that there are

I got a chuckle out of the last couple of messages regarding PAF 4 and PAF 5. When will it come... to be or not to be ... or Some day my ......... will come. It is just like the update to IGI, all I know is it is coming. I do enjoy the comments by other Family History Consultants on this site. I am learning more and more as I go along. Not everyone's family history is cut and dried. It is great when one has an uncommon problem and there are people out there to give opinions and answers. Can you imagine
I purchased the Family Search video for myself from 123genealogy and it is
great. I learned a lot from it even tho I have used the site a lot. I plan
to use it in my FH classes about internet genealogy. I highly recommend it
to anyone interested in making the best use of the site. The discussion
list that just started will probably be helpful too.

Hello all! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
I've downloaded the new PAF 5.0 & have had a
problem doing a couple of things, & wanted to know
if any of you have experienced this yet.
I tried to make a gedcom file, & also do a Match/Merge
& the same problem happens. When the box opens
up to detail those things, the new box is so large,
that the bottom of the box is not to be seen. And
that is where the "OK" button, etc. is supposed to be -

Tom,
I hope you have read the other postings referencing this. The Temple Ready

Hey gang,
I've posted on Beyond the Veil (www.lds-family-history.org) a copy of our
new stake family history newsletter, the Salt Lake Lantern. It's in Adobe
.pdf format, which means it can be viewed and printed exactly as it appears
in WordPerfect. The Lantern will be used to proliferate the following
information to family history leaders in stakes and wards:
* Quotes from manuals listing the family history duties assigned to each
calling.
* Introductions to family history resources like the Ancestral
I have been challenged on my statement about the material kept in the Meetinghouse libraries. Let me quote you from the Manuel what it says about non Church materials in Meetinghouse Libraries.

"Audio and video materials that are not approved for Distribution through Church distribution centers, including animated scripture videocassettes, may not be stored in or circulated from
After going back and re-reading the posts, I would like to add what I got
out of the discussion.
Whether or not some particular material or skits should be used is not the
important thing here, but the principles and guidelines we use in our
respective callings. The most important principle mentioned was seeking
divine inspiration and guidance in what and how we teach. We have a right
to that came into place when we were called, accepted and set apart for our
calling. Further guidance is in the ha
It sounds like you belong to a different LDS church
than the one I joined over 30 years ago.
The HPGL does work with the Bishop but
he reports to and is responsible to the Stake President.
The HPGL has the right of inspiration regarding
home teaching assignments, it is in his stewardship.
And while in some situations he will consult
with the Bishop, the Bishop does not
approve every single home teaching assignment
in my Ward or in my Stake.
I know this as the HP secretary who tracks all HT assignments,

I want to thank those who were more careful than I when they read the
posting about when PAF5 will be released. Of course. It is completely
clear that PAF5 will be our Year 2000 Christmas Present.
For what it's worth, my Bishop and next door neighbor works for the LDS
Church as a computer security specialist. Last year he was not allowed to
take leave just before and after the new year. (Remember the Y2K problem
that never happened.) I can tell you that for special needs, the Church's
