Greetings!
I just want to let you know what happens at the temple regarding name order.
I know you have options as to name order when entering. What we have noticed is
that names that are entered surname first are regarded by the computer as having
no first name - since there is no name before the slash. The computer will
insert a Miss or Mr., according to the sex of the person, as it would in the
instance of a child who died with out a name.
I have seen a boodle of cards like that in the last two weeks.
This is a wonderful place to start, I ask my primary president if I could do
Sharing Time for one month, Then I went in and explained what Family History
is and ask several of the Grandparents and Great Grandparents to come in and
tell the children what Primary was like when they were young, then I
explained to the children that is was part of Family History Stories. I
made up a little booklet called "The Book of (child's name). 1st- page I
challenged each child to fill out a 4 generation pedigree, and the
Cindy,
I too would love your presentation. I totally agree about Elder Eyring's
talk. It is such a moving experience. It gets to me every time. When
things don't look like they are going the way they should, that talk is a
great pick me up.

Cindy,
I would love a copy of your presentation. I am in need of some help with
my calling. I have been in this position for 5 months or more and
attending stake meetings each month. I have sent out a survey to get
information on where the members are and now I just need to start teaching
the classes and i am nervous. I feel so unable to teach the class when I
am just learning all this mayself. Is the talk written down or just in the
video. I had never heard of that video. Can I order it from the

Greetings Consultants!
I want to tell you about an upcoming event that may be of benefit to you
and/or your ward members. The following is a little news blurb I am
sending to all the local papers in hopes they will print it in their
"Local Calendar" section. I apologize for the relatively short notice.
As you may imagine, based on recent events, we were not sure this was
really going to happen -- but all plans are well under way and we are
excited.
I want to be sure and point out that 2 classes are in E

I gave my presentation this morning (7:30 am)to our Stake Presidency, Stake
Mission Presidency, Ward Mission Leaders, and the Full-Time Missionary Zone
Leader (& companion). They meet once a month. In fact, the Stake President
didn't know we were going to be there (bad communication) and almost kicked
us out before we started. Luckily, it was confirmed we were to be there.
Anyway, the 45-minute meeting was highly successful. We got great feedback
and lots of good questions.

Hi Jill!
As you are most probably aware, the order of entering names can be set in
TOOLS|PREFERENCES|NAMES, with four options there to select from. Those
options, however, only apply to the entering of names from the time it is
selected. They wont do a "blanket" change of all names in the database.
I created a dummy file in PAF5, to test whether making a GEDCOM of that file
created with surnames first (and option set that way), would change order
when transferred to a new database, with the option set for
Originally I posted Cindy Webb's presentation
my website in PowerPoint 2000 as she created it.
But a number of people said they could not read
it because they did not have the necessary software.
So I have turned it into a webpage presentation.
Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any
problems with this, it is the first time I have tried this.

Dick,
I downloaded your information on temple submissions and read all 31 pages and then re-read some of them. Excellent job. Thanks for all you do.
Do you have MS publisher 2000 or higher? I have used that program to put together a 136 page bound book that I call "Sunday School Class Lesson Material". The subjects covered are:
1. Introduction.
2. Learn the research and verification process.
3. Gather information and records.
4. Start using Personal Ancestral File.
5. Start "book one" of your family hi
Does anyone know if you delete the PAF program off your computer, do the
files stay intact? Because I want to reinstall Paf 5 because I have a
glitch in the one I am using but I am afraid of loosing my all my files or
should I just back them up and delete and reinstall the restore?
Thank
Thanks to all for your suggestions on deleting Paf Program, it did it and
all is well and no files were lost.
as for changing from 2.31 to 5 I figured that out, but on when people put
their data on a disk from 2.31 or 3.0.
I can't figure how you get those files from the disk into the program in
order to make the gedcom. A lady tried to help me at the FHC who is very
good on computers, but it has been such a long time since we have used that
program that we have all forgot the steps. I was wondering if w
Sue, the easiest and quickest way, is to create a GEDCOM of your data in PAF
2.31 and import it into PAF5.

I would assume it would also work for PAF 4 since the data format for PAF3
is the same as PAF 4.
Any comments?

It is a great day for genealogists and family
historians everywhere! On Wednesday, September 26,
2001, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved legislation
to designate October as "Family History Month." This
is a huge day for the more than 80 million Americans
who are believed to be actively searching for more
information about their ancestors. "Millions of
Americans are researching the history of their
families," said Senator Orrin G. Hatch, the Utah
Republican who introduced the Family History Month

That's a good warning. Laurie. Why anyone would want to enter names contrary
to the accepted practice, I can't figure out! Just hope any who have entered
names out of order and intend submitting their records, get around to fixing
them before too long!
