I am not sure what census you have and are doing look ups in. I have a
Thomas H ( Henry or Homer) Lewis that was in Macoupin or Greene Co. in 1900
his wife was Hattie Imogene Barnard and I know he had some children at that
time on of which was Howard Clinton Lewis who would have been 1 yr old in
Aug of 1900. Howard was my father. Looking to see if Thomas was from
England ( according to Howard he was) or somewhere else.
Thank You

I would appreciate help on Lewis Lewis and Evan Lewis of Chester Co., PA and
their ancestors of Glamorganshire, Wales. I have heard this line goes back
through Princess Di and the English royal lines to William the Conqueror.
Also, did any of these Lewis' in this line, serve in the Revolutionary War
and War of 1812. Thanks.

Could my Indiana Lewises and the southern Lewises have had common ancestors in Barnstable, Massachusetts?
Cornelius LEWIS married Sarah GREEN. Their children were Zadock, born c. 1750, married Comfort ?, lived in NY prior to Rev. War, served Rev. War, also Micajah, Electra, Eliza, Rebecca and Genjna. Zadock had sons Daniel R., and William B., b. 1783, moved to Indiana after War of 1812.

Does anyone have information about Penelope LEWIS, born Aptil 29, 1814, in
Madison County, KY, married Solomon Jefferson HARRIS on January 4, 1832 in
Garrard Co., KY, died in 1893 in Excelsior Springs, MO. We believe that her
parents were Greenberry and Elizabeth LEWIS. She had a brother William
LEWIS, born 1813, who married Rebecca SUBLETTE. Elizabeth LEWIS was born in
1799 in Madison Co., KY. After her marriage to Greenberry LEWIS, she married
Jesse/Chester AGEE on February 20, 1818, in Madison
The following info is from a ROBERTS family reunion booklet from 1969. I'm trying to find more information on both families. I have names and dates for William B.'s parents and paternal grandparents, but do not know where they were from. I have nothing on his maternal grandparents, nor his paternal grandmother's parents. All I have on Ora's side of the family is the names of her parents, and that she had other siblings (but have no names for her siblings). If anyone knows this family, I'd love to hear from
I found a FTM User web pate with info on this Joseph H. Lewis for those
interested:

Are you aware that Green was primarily an Indian name? You might try someof
those sources.

First, let me say that I sorry that your Lewis research has been complicated
by so much ado about the Lewis Newsletter! This was certainly not our
intention!
Second, let me thank those subscribers that defended our position.
As the publisher of the Lewis Newsletter, we feel that it is our obligation

Col Fielding Lewis was indeed a very prominent, well to do gentleman/planter.
He was one of the first to use use lime in farming. He lost the bulk of his
family's fortune supplying arms and ammunition to support the Rev War. He
was married to Betty Washington, George's sister and they lived in
Fredericksburg, Va.
I thought this was pretty interesting. I belong to a mailing list that has these cool facts and thought it pertained to our hobby.
Why does an "X" mark stand for a kiss?
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
In medieval times, most people were unable to read or write. When it
came time to sign a document, people who could not write usually made
an "X" mark. Of course, an "X" is not much of a signature. To add a
sense of commitment, it became customary to kiss the "X"
If you have Family Tree Maker, a program like FTM 5.0, then make sure that it
is totally closed before you download is the easiest. Then just click on the
download button and it should download for you immediately and if you have
that FTM program as your GEDCOM program....then it will automatically open up
Family Tree Maker and give you the opportunity to rename this file and then
open up directly to the first family page.

Wendy,
There were a lot of Charles Lewis listed in the MN 1900 census, but none with
a wife named Alice. Nor was there an Alice Lewis listed in the 1900 census.
Do you have any other ideas?

Somehow I have missed any exchange on Green Lewis. Is this the family from
Edgecombe Co. NC and is there more in the LEWIS-L Archives. If so, how do I
get to the Archives?
Addice in Fairfax, VA still looking for parents and related info of Shadrach
Lewis (and wife Edith ??) of Southampton Co., VA. Shadrach died ca 1810.

Is anyone researching the family of Mary Lewis, born Nov 19, 1696,
died Jan 19, 1762, she married Joseph Dulaney on/abt 1715 possibly at
Richmond co. VA.
There is several conflicting stories about her father and I tend to
believe
she is NOT the daughter of Zachary Lewis and Mary Walker, but many
persons show her in that family. I even found it on the
Dulaney/Delaney
website on decendants of Thomas Dulaney.
I had a researcher copy me some deeds regarding Zachary Lewis and there
is no mention of a daughte
just picked this up on another site, its quite long, but it ties in with the
genealogy mode, which we are all interested in.
ENJOY!
Life in the 1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May
and were still smelling pretty good by June. However, they were just
starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body
odor.
Baths equaled a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the
privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other son
Hi,
Since scanning a small portion of family pictures, and other historic pictures
of little to no interest to but a few people out there, I figured I'd put them
up on the web. I know a few of you are related to my line of Lewis' (Culpeper
VA/Barren Co. KY), so feel free to check out the site. It may take a bit to
load up, if I can figure out a way to speed things up I will. Any suggestions
welcomed. Please feel free to download, all I ask is that you let me know
you're doing so. I'm hopeful that poss
Hi Addice,
I have not noticed any response on the list to your post, but I am
interested if you have anything further on Green Lewis. One Green Lewis
performed the marriage of my gggrandparents, Joseph E. and Sarah
(RUSHING) LEWIS 07 May 1844 in Stewart Co., GA. We're not sure how he
ranked in the order of Greens, but probably still the one that married
Sarah's sister, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzy" RUSHING in 1841. We *think* he
was also J.E.'s brother, who his descendant says he is "sure" died in

Mary,
You are correct. What is even more compelling is that Fielding's grandmother and George Washington's grandmother were sisters. I speak of course about Elizabeth Warner and Mildred Warner, mother of Capt. Augustine Washington. Both men shared gGrandfather's, being Col. Augustine Warner, Jr.
Sincerely,
