6. [LEWIS-L] Computer Crashes [1]
Hi, Rachelle. When my computer crashed, my son was able to take my hard drive to work - he's a computer nerd - and the super nerd there extracted everything from my hard drive, put it on zip discs, and we retrieved the information. It might be worth a try for you. I hope everyone will forgive me for posting off topic, but it does have to do with genealogy -- I would have lost all my entered genealogy info! Linda D. TX

When we owned a farm in Maine we noticed, upon purchase, that the oringinal deed was, indeed, one of these Revolutionary War grants and signed by General George Washington. The three men who had been given the grant (two brothers and the oldest man's son) were buried only a short distance from the house and we were honored that the DAR came up to decorate their graves on every holiday. 11. [LEWIS-L] Questions about a Lewis from Illinois [1]
I am new to this list. I was delighted to find a list on my maiden name. I descend from John Lewis. He emigrated in 1851 from Montgomeryshire , Wales. He married a Catherine Morris also from Montgomeryshire, Wales. My question at this time is about a stillborn female child that is buried on my gr. grandfather's lot in Racine, Wisconsin,USA. Her father was David Lewis of 206 Pleasant St., Joliet, Illinois, USA. She was stillborn 2 Feb. 1892. I believe that David was likely a relative, perhaps a br
12. Re: [LEWIS-L] Joseph H. Lewis (KY or TN?) [1]
Wow Floyd! Great little CD you got there!! I betcha that's him alright, or at least a strong possibility. And putting him in Barren Co, KY means he could very well be related to me afterall. ;-) Karen, do you see any connection with your KY Lewis' data? Now... where'd you get that Sierra Historical CD and what all does it include? Do they have a web site of their products you could point me to? As I find more and more ancestors who were in the Civil War, I'm always looking for more resources. Thanks fo

14. [LEWIS-L] Leaving for a few weeks [1]
Hi Lewis listers; The housesitter doesn't know my password, so will unsubscribe tomorrow in preparation for a vacation that, among other things, will take us to Salt Lake City where my wife will attend a Stampin' Up! convention in the Salt Palace (guess where I will be!) and from there to a Fleet Reserve Association convention in Tacoma, WA. Will re-subscribe in mid-August. If, in the meantime, a kuzzin wants to contact me, I will occasionally check yncsusnret@netscape.net -- Joe Burgess Grants Pass, Ore
15. Re: [LEWIS-L] Fwd: Richard Lewis (b. c 1648) [1]
Hi: There was a Richrd LEWIS living in Isle of Wight Co., VA prior to 1700. A William LEWIS was living in Bath/Beaufort Co. NC married and had children and grandchildren born there. Also a Richard LEWIS was in Bladen/Anson County 1750s as the history book relate that a 14 years old son of Richard LEWIS was killed by the Indians. Check Boddie's History of Isle of Wight as he is a de- cendant of the Bennetts in that county. Good luck! ___________________________________________________________________ G

Hi Nancy, Thanks for the response. Please forward my information to Jan Cooper GREER. Maybe we can link up. I will keep your information handy for possible leads. In the mean time I have ordered 1900 & 1910 Census films pertaining to GREER for TX & OK from the local LDS library. I decided to find Maggie Virginia Greer's siblings first and move back ( I was hoping my great aunt would find their names and birth dates in her records but that might not be possible). Maggie Virginia GREER married James

Thank you to everyone who offered advise and assistance. I am going to try my 5 1/2 floppies locally. I haven't used them in several years, but you're right it is worth a try. If I can't get them read locally two kind souls have offered assistance. I don't remember how much of my work is actually on the old floppies but as least they are something. When I tried to use my 3 1/4 PAF backups, I found a file called PAF.QIC instead of the indivdat.bak that Family Tree Maker expected. I'm confused bec
20. [LEWIS-L] Fairfax Co VA Lewises [1]
Tammy, Do your Fairfax Co VA Lewises have any Jacobs in the same generation? Or Thomas, or William, or Zephaniah? I am trying to connect with the same area, with Fairfax Co VA or Frederick Co MD. I have a Wm Lewis who moved to OH from Frederick MD in 1822 but listed his birthplace as DC which I understand was partly made up of Fairfax Co VA although that area was rescinded later. There is a Jacob in the 1800 census who fits the right age to be Wm's father with siblings who's names are repeating in t

22. [LEWIS-L] Another William Lewis [1]
Dear List, Does anyone have any information on a William LEWIS who died in Guilford County, NC sometime between the writing of his will in Oct. 1830 and its probate in Feb. 1831? The will is very sketchy and I can find nothing on him concerning how old he was or where the family lived -- no land records, etc. I can't even find out where he was buried. If anyone found a resting place for a William Lewis in NC that you put aside because he was not YOUR William Lewis, please share. I have been try
23. [LEWIS-L] Who Owned Maine? [1]
I suspect Maine was acquired through right of conquest, that it previously belonged to the British, who acquired it through Indian treaties and the French and Indian War. However, I'm just guessing. When you go to the Bureau of Land Management site, the original individual deeds include a line with the date on which the government acquired the land. That would give you a clue, I would think. I suspect we got it thanks to the Revolution. I think this because so many of my relatives moved up there after

25. [LEWIS-L] LEWIS [1]
Does anyone have any information about Lewis's in Humboldt, Gibson Co., TN in the late 1800s. My grandfather was born March 15, 1889 in Humboldt. The information we have is that he was born Jess(e) Lewis, but we don't have any mother's or father's name. He was adopted in 1893 by William T. and Barbara Jane (Walters) Stewart and taken to Paris, Lamar Co., Texas, where he grew up. The story we were told as we grew up is that his mother was alive at least until after he married in 1911. She contacted him,
