Hi Litchfield researchers,
Recently someone posted the marriage details of William Litchfield batchelor of Eldon Street Sneinton, occupation Lace Maker, Father John Lace maker, and Eliza Goodall spinster living Walker Street, father John, Malster. Witnesses Thomas and Harriet Goodall, on 1 April 1839. William and Eliza made their mark and both were of age.
I believe that William is the son of John Litchfield and Dorothy Birch, born 9 Dec 1811, and Eliza Goodall was born about 1818.
They had six childr
So what do these tests tell you and how does it help with your genealogy.

I have looked at my Litchfield tree and found a Sarah (Hannah) E
Here is some information which may help someone. St Stephen's, Sneinton is
in Nottingham UK. (Just over the road from the home of William Booth,
founder of the Salvation Army).

Thanks for the explanation. I think I understand that :-)
How does the matching happen? Is it something you can do yourself or do you
have to get an expert to do it for you? I can't quite visualise the process
involved, not having seen one of these tests.

I was sent this DNA test information from the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy
Foundation:

It is free service - apart from the return postage.
I signed up for it and received the DNA swab.

Hi David,
Currently they test two lines. There is one part of DNA that records the
mother's DNA and there is a another that traces the father's inherited DNA.
For our purposes, the father's DNA allows us to determine if there are links
between different lines. Statistically, it can calculate in generations and
in time between two people the likely distance between a common ancestor.
For example, take two Litchfield lines. We might be able to trace back five
generations. DNA testing might indicate that
