While we are on the subject of Lithuanian marriages, does anyone know what
church in Hartford, CT Lithuanians might have attended in 1929?

Welcome!
There are many fine, knowledgeable and friendly people in this group. You'll
discover heaps about all things Lithuanian.
Meanwhile for more information about Lithuania, do a search on the web.
Some excellent pages on Lithuania are available, I'm totally biased but the
very best is "Lithuanian Global Resources" at
http://www.angelfire.com/ut/Luthuanian/index.html
This site has practically everything to do with Lithuania on it.
History, Genealogy, E-newsletters, Graphics etc etc etc. I'm sure tha

I was happy to finally receive the petition papers that my grandfather
completed as he applied for citizenship. These are a series of papers
that were completed over a series of years.
I have two questions I would like anyone's comments on:
1. One paper indicated he was born in the ' praney ' of ' Sowaska ' in
Russia Poland in the Kingdom of Russia. The quotes indicate my best
attempt at reading written entries from the forms.
Could this refer to Suwalki in Poland?
2. I've always known my grandfather'
Thanks to all who responed to my previous request for a word

with translating the following as I can't find all these words in my

is difficult to decipher. Thanks again for your help.
Carole, In case you haven't found the gravesites and obituaries of your
grandparents, I'd like to recommend you call the Catholic Cemeteries
Association in Waterbury located at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main St.,
Waterbury, CT 06705, tel 203-754-9105. This office has the burial records for
Calvary Cemetery and for Old & New St. Joseph's Cemeteries. Do you know if
your grandparents were members of St. Joseph's Church? (St. Joseph's was the
Lithuanian parish in Waterbury.) If the burial was in one of t

I presume you've seen Vanagas and noted that he says there were 42
persons named DABAS~INSKAS circa 1985.
The root seems to be the Polish _dobosz_ "drummer," but those Polish Dob-
names, DOBIESL/AW &c., must also be a possibility.
There are probably a number possible locations. Consult:

Hello,
I greatly appreciate the response I had to my previous post. Thank You.
Now, I have another question. I have read many references to a
Lithuanian phone book. Is it a hard copy or accessed via the WWW? How can I
access it.
Again, thank you.

The "Miner's Examining Board" was appointed under the Act of Assembly

an act of the PA state legislature of that time.

I posted earlier asking about Lithuanian Churches in Brooklyn and am very
grateful to those who helped me out. I would be interested to hear about
the Lithuanian Community in Brooklyn at the early part of this century. Do
any of you have roots there? Are there certain people that show up over
and over agin in stories etc.?
Also, do any of you know anything about Ft. Slocum on Long Island? My
Lithuanian great grandfather enlisted in WWI there and I'm wondering if
that would help me narrow down where he mig

Is there anyone out there who can either direct me to the nearest source of,
or have access to, Wedding Records from the Lithuanian Catholic Church(es) in
either Edwardsville, PA, Kingston, PA, or Plymouth, PA? (Luzerne County of
course).
The wedding took place between 1914 to 1916, but most probably in 1916.
I will appreciate any and all help.
Thanks in advance.
