8. [Lon] Barnes Isolation Hospital, 1915 [0.968067]
Hi Listers, I have seen two references as to where my grandfather died in 1915. One is the Isolation Hospital at Mortlake, and the other is Barnes Isolation Hospital at Barnes. I have found two hospitals on the map, the Barnes Hospital and Priory Hospital. Was the Isolation Hospital located at either of the above two, or was it at some other place ? Hi Shelia Yes, I think the spelling 'Euphemia' is definitely used as a girl's name - we have several in our Scottish line from Fife. 10. Re: [Lon] Conflicting Names on Documents [0.968067]
I too -- have this kind of conflict, where my girl's known father's name came out totally differently on the certificate of her marriage. I think she was too starry eyed and struck with wonder at getting a spouse when a virgin at 39, and let her Scottish bloke do the talking for her. "What's yer Dad's name?" " Och aye tha noo." 14. [Lon] John Thomas WOODBRIDGE [0.968067]
Hi Listers, Could SKS do a look-up in the Trade Directory for me? My great grandfather John Thomas WOODBRIDGE is shown as a Foreman Lock and Safe Makers in the 1881 Census. On a wedding certificate in 1907 he is shown as a manufacturer. I was wondering if he went into business by himself at some time, possibly near Hackney where resided. 15. Re: [Lon] Replies and requests [0.968067]
Yes, I agree with Sophiee, It is really useful if listers can put their country on with their signature. A request like "where can I find details of ___ " has a very different reply if the person is living in England or Australia and I often can't tell from the email address. It is very easy to add your location and email address to your signature and then just insert it at the end and it would often help you get a better response. 18. Re: [Lon] How much for information? [0.968067]
Hi I am posting this to the list as I think it could be of general interest. Apparently the best procedure is to write with your request and then say that you would like to make a small donation in appreciation of their care for your relative and could they please confirm that you have the correct address to send a donation to. This apparently facilitates a reply! I have not yet tried it myself. As to how much - I once made a donation of $20 to a Catholic archive here in Oz and they were totally overwhelm
