Having read within this mailing list some scholorly thoughts on the
boundries and identifications of various hundreds in lower Delaware and
Worcester, and Somerset Cos, MD, I'm chancing that someone will be able to
address the following. The research on my West heritage seems to center
within the property identified
as West(s) Recovery, Delaware Hundred, Sussex Co, DE. The best I can
identify the area known as West(s) Recovery is on the southern shore of
Indian River and and on the east side of Blackwate
Dear Tom and other Rooters,
I too would like to know more about Annamessex Hundred. Is there a map?
Is there a book that tells about it? I was doing some research yesterday
and came across one person listed as living in "Little Annamessex" and
another living in Annamessex Hundred. Are they the same? Did this area
become Worcester County when it was created ?
Thanks! Sincerely,
Bobbie Redden Leamer
Dear Anne,
I have searched my notes on both Taylors and Powells, and came up with this:
>From Md. Eastern Shore Vital Records, 1801-1825 (Wright), p. 89. Worcester
Parish, Worcester County.
Patty Taylor, daughter of John Taylor (of Levin) and Polly, his wife, born
l Aug 1808
Thomas Taylor, born 2 Jan 1811.
I'm not sure whether this is the right "Levin" but---
E.S.V.R. 1726-1750 , Coventry Parish Records, p. 100, has:
Elias Taylor m. Susannah Gunby ?/19/1736
Gunby Taylor, b. 7 Jan. 1737
Sarah Taylor, b.
To M. Caine and Linda Abel, and others who may be interested,
I am searching for the parents of Susan Taylor, wife of Nehemiah Redden,
born abt. 1812, who lived in the Girdletree area of Worcester County. I
have found that there are many Taylors, including Somerset and Accomack Cos.
In copying down things that might be possible leads, I jotted down the
following info from MD Eastern Shore Vital Records 1801-1825 (Wright), p.
89---Worcester Parish, Worcester County (Original register held by State

I believe I saw some postings here about he surname HORSEY. This is not
my line so I just deleted them. Then as I was searching on Ancestry.COM

STEPHEN HORSEY, b. 15th April, 1688; will prob. 9th Septernber, 1761;

I have an interest in this too. The information that I received from the
Berlin Heritage Foundation, in a copy of the Genealogy of the Iron-
Shire Family by Melanie Ayres Merryweather was:
Esther Ironshire daughter of Joseph Ironshire and Esther
Collins married Ebenezer Franklin and had:
i. Andasia Ironshire Franklin b. 28 Aug 1788 d. 31 May 1864
Do you think these are the same Esther Ironshi
Having been born and brought up on the good old Eastern Shore of MD and having
had friends with the surname "Horsey", I have a question. I ask out of just
plain curiosity but think the answer might be interesting. What is the origin
of the name "Horsey". Thanks to anyone who might take the time to answer.

Thank you Judy and Bob for helping me to understand the
Ironshire relationships a bit better. You both supplied me
with additional useful information which I apppreciate.

England or Scotland. His will was dated 10/13/1733 and

Dear Eva (and folks):
Saw your forward of the West information. I am descended from Capt. John West who m. Katherine Revell. Will you be kind enough to let me know if the person's earlier post (or if you know) mentioned anything about proof that Capt. John is the son of George West?
Thanks.

I've gotten into a nice puzzle with the Fisher family
of PA/DE, which doesn't appear to have any relationship
to the one in NH/ACC. The fun part
is a book written in 1896 which has it's good and bad
points - some of it's right and some of it's wrong. I've
managed to put some of the pieces together with
information from other sources-once that's done, it
makes a lot more sense. Because of size, I've had to
trim out a lot of narrative and cites (if you want the
text, let me know & I'll send as an attachment t
I have been told that the AYDELOTT name abounds in Delaware. Does
anyone have a connection to Henry SMITH married to Nancy AYDELOTT in
their line? They produced a son, Henry Aydelott SMITH, born in Sussex
Co., DE in 1800. He married Elizabeth HINKLE in Hamilton Co., Ohio in
1820. I know nothing about Henry SMITH and know only that the Aydelotts
were French Huguenots. Could someone tell me the correct pronunciation
of the Aydelott name? Does anyone know about the Aydelott Newsletters,
where they are loc
Levine/Leaven LIVING DENWOOD was born in Bekesbourne, Kent, England and
Baptised in 1598. Extract from Hasted`s survey of Kent, showing possible
origin of the name Living, later corrupted to Leven, & etc... A letter I
recieved from Mike Denwood (Denwood Family Researcher) in Steyning, West
Sussex, England believes Living Dennwood to be the same person as Levine
Denwood in Accomac County.

Hi,
This is a familiar question. What is the address for the search engine to
read previous Lower Del Marva mailing list inquiries. Missed the last

Michael:
The best thing I have found is the " Maryland-Delaware Atlas & Gazetteer" by
DeLorme Mapping. It is a paperback booklet in an oversized format with
"detailed topographic maps, back roads, and outdoor recreation." You can
get it for about $16.95 at most of the local chain book stores and even some
convenience stores. I believe Amazon.com sells it as well but you might not
get it in time. I use this exact Atlas with my old maps to try and project
myself back in time when I'm out huntin' around!
My great grandfather, WILLIAM S. WATSON, born aboutr 1832 and married to NANCY
R.ff, is listed in the 11870 census for WICOMICO CO., MD, as living in the
TYASKIN DISTRICT. The family is not listed in the 1860 census for that area.
I'm interested in where WILLIAM and his family were living before 1860 and his
father's name. Jeanne Scott

Folks:
I'm writing in the guise of both my public (Nabb Center) and private personas. Recently I've been inundated with e-mail (both work and personal) and now am overloaded trying to respond. Mike Hitch, I know I owe you a response and you are at the head of the list. Thanks to all who wrote with kind words on my boundary commentary. I'm taking up your time with this because of the blast the Nabb Center received last Fall because we didn't answer someone quickly enough. Please bear with me/us.

Looking for a needle in a haystack.

Excuse me. The correct name is HORSLEY, Gloustershire, England. My
ancestors came from there and I've been
there doing research. Also in Avening, Nailsworth and Tetbury, all in
Gloustershire. Sorry for sticking my nose in.....

Hi Rooters,
I have asked before with no luck; however, I just saw TOADVINE and wondered if
anyone knows anything about my Eleanor/Nellie Toadvine, born 11/10/1820 to
Elijah Toadvine and Esther Pollitt in Worcester County.
On 1/6/1837 she married David J. Hayman, who was born 11/26/1808 to Handy
Hayman and Polly Brown in Worchester County.
David and Nellie had 6 children: Mary A., James Hargus, Josephus Handy, Emily
F., Hester J., and Elijah Handy C. Hayman (my great grandfather).
David died 7/9/1873 an
I believe the best book on the subject of Methodism on the shore is "The
Garden of American Methodism: The Delmarva Peninsula 1769-1820" by William H.
Williams. It is available in local bookstores. Asbury's diary is a wonderful
source of names for those connected with the birth of the church. It is
available at Barratt's Chapel and, I believe, at the Hist. Soc of De lib in
Wilmington., among other places.
In a nutshell, the peninsula's economy was awful before the Revolution,
drunkeness was the favorite
