Hi,
Have been reading the many varying degrees of do i, should, are they
aren't they, etc.
First thing The Ancestry World Tree entries are still on the site and as far
as i see are still free. They are just farther down the results page now.
The 1880 US census is FREE at http://www.familysearch.org or .com either
one.
Click on census and use the drop down boxes for each entry. You don't even
have to have the exact spelling or use a wildcard. It's an everyname in hh
index. (But to fuel the conspiracy th
Are there not ferries? What about that famous undersea tunnel?

I was very angry with Ancestry (MyFamily.com) last year over my private
websites having advertising banners put on them one month after I signed up. I
screamed bloody murder and cited my long and expensive membership. They finally
gave in and took the banners off. So, complain loudly and frequently and they
may give you what you want rather than lose you as a customer.

These are the only Melvill references I have. I do have some Ford

Happy Halloween, one and all!
I currently find myself faced with leaving the Eastern Shore for what looks
like a long time and I'm consumed by nostalgia. One of the things I wish I had
photographed during my summers on Deal Island was the old buildings at Wenona,
where sails, etc. were made.
If anyone should happen to have photos they could email me, I would be ever
so appreciative. I would also gladly pay for hard copies.

James,
I imagine this likely is pretty far removed, but This Was Chesapeake Bay names a Captain Harry EVANS as the skipper of the Rachel Jane, which was the winner of the powerboat division race in the 1930 Workboat Regatta, held off Piney Point, Maryland.

Hello Dave,
It sounds like a beautiful book, and if I can ever save up enough

In the meantime, I wonder if there is any mention of a Captain Jonathan
Dennis Cathell, or a schooner line that ran from Georgetown (District of

I agree with the positive comments about census material available on
Ancestry.com. I have greatly expanded my knowledge of my ancestors based on these
census images, including English census material. I have also found the

I have never had my subscription renewed without a phone call from

emails about Ancestry.com. Although I have not sub

I am fortunate to have Ancestry on my computer at my volunteer job. But I
prefer Heritage Quest for census. If you are not familiar with HQ it is
available to Libraries. Check your local (do not forget your contiguous libraries,
they usually will give you a library card) see if they have Heritage Quest
on line that you can get free from home by just typing in your card number.
For two years I have subscribed for $35 per year for HQ and other databases,
paying by check (I did not want them to a
I would like to echo Bruce's comments and add a couple of observations.
The census services from ancestry.com (and probably genealogy.com if you think you need both) are invaluable and well worth the cost. First, you get the convenience of having the actual images available at home on your computer - no library or FHC trips, no waiting for microfilms to be delivered. Second, you get the ability not just to depend on someone else's reading of a particular listing, but to see it yourself. Third, you get t

I don't like the idea of these add on charges for each seperate set of
reference items either, as in the beginning I started using Ancestry.com for most
of my Internet research, but as has been mentioned, I would have spent much
more going to archives, court houses, and libraries to obtain this info. I used
to use Rootsweb for a lot of my research, but they got swallowed up by
Ancestry.com and to keep up my addictive hobby, I bought into Ancestry.com. At
that time there was only one fee.

If you notify the Bridge Police ahead of time--they will arrange to drive
you over the bridge. The best advice is not to look down and stay away from
the lanes with the grids that allow rain water to drain. Right now I would
not advise going near the bridge, they are in the middle of trying to
rectify all the construction miscues of last summer on the west bound span
and are shutting down quite a few lanes as well as re-routing one lane of
traffic to the east bound span making the back ups overwhelming.

Hello,
Help. It's as if they didn't really exist. I am trying to learn something
about my great grandparents (my father's mothers' family). Her name was Margaret
Mason. Probably born around 1900 and her parents were Mather Mason and Ida
Hopkins Mason. It is my understanding they lived in the Berlin or Newark
Maryland area. Margaret was married briefly to David Pennewill of Snow Hill (of
which one child, Charles, was born in 1928) and after the divorce went to
Baltimore. The only other thing I
