Hi Phyllis,
From what I understand, Clinton, MA was the most popular destination in
the US for County Mayo immigrants, especially those from the Louisburgh
area. Clinton had lots of mill/factory jobs and Irish immigrants were
welcomed. Many of the Mayo immigrants already living in Clinton would
take in friends & relatives as boarders until they could afford places
of their own, which made their transition to the US that much smoother.
I have Joyce and Grady ancestors from Louisburgh.
I did locate
New discovery..Michael Patrick ARMSTRONG came from Louisburgh, Ireland in
1905 to Clinton, Mass.
He had 10 bucks in his pocket and headed for his brother Patrick's boarding
house on 148 Union St. (if I'm reading the handwriting right.)
I am without a clue!!!
WHY did all those Irish people head for Clinton??
What was the draw??
Anybody connected to the ARMSTRONG family??
Michael's wife's name Mary________ unknown.
Need some direction here folks! Push me in the right direction!
