actually his middle name was hill.
he was born in either louisiana or alabama in 1843.
his wife's maiden name was spelled gale.
his civl war service records indicate he was a private in the 12th alabama infantry and fought at Gettysburg.
he died sometime around 1890 i think.

Mary - thank you for posting the obits. I don't know about the accuracy of his war history, but I do know that he was NOT of lineal descent of Senator Nathaniel Macon as Nathaniel's only son died as a young boy, so none of his grandchildren bore the Macon name.
