1. Danvers and Peabody - Look-up Volunteers [1]
Hi all, Do you have a resource or tip to share? If anyone is willing to be a look-up volunteer for Peabody and/or Danvers families or history [or anything else], I would be more than happy to add your name and resource/s to the list of volunteers. Also, if anyone has any helpful information that would benefit researchers, will gladly add that to the USGenWeb Danvers or Peabody pages. I am trying to sort out conflicting information regarding the birthdate and birthplace of my 2nd great grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Florantha GEORGE. Elizabeth Ann Florantha GEORGE was the second child of Moses GEORGE and Abigail Bodwell LADD. She married William Wallace COLBY 26 Nov 1840 in Haverhill. She died 21 July 1874 in Methuen. According to Keith H. George (George Genealogy, publ 1991, p. 394), Elizabeth was born 4 Sep 1821 in Haverhill. Her tombstone in Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence is inscri
4. Note of Appreciation [1]
Many thanks to the MAESSEX listers who responded to my query regarding the birthdate and birthplace of my 2nd great grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Florantha George. I subscribe to a couple of dozen Rootsweb lists, and the folks on MAESSEX are surely among the most knowledgeable and helpful anywhere! I always read MAESSEX postings (even when they do not relate to my lines) because of the tremendous amount of useful ancillary information they contain. 12. Sojourner and other terms in Essex Vital Records [1]
Does anyone have a good reference that gives the definitions of Sojourner, Resident and "of town" as used in the Essex County VRs? This is what I have. Sojourner is defined as a temporary resident. But many VRs, such as Gloucester" use sojourner and resident. I have not noticed any time frame for the use. I do not know what the difference between Sojourner and Resident was as used in the VRs. Some Sojourners and some Residents remained and died in Gloucester and their children lived and died in Glouces

If you are going to pass the 1790 Gloucester Census Transcription on be sure to add a note to the top that the transcription has not been proofed. I think the names are pretty good but the numbers of people may be wrong as the type in the published Census is very small. If you find errors or have comments to add, send to me and I will update. The transcription can be sorted alphabetically if you have Excel and perhaps the Excel viewer. bob gillis

24. RE: [MAESSEX] Death Certificates [1]
I have to agree with Bob on this one. I have my grandfathers death certificate. He disappeared on Jan 30 1943. His body was found drowned on Mar 24 1943. The death certificate lists his death date as March 24th. The certificate also lists my grandmother as Margaret, her name was Mary Magdalene. She always went by Maggie so her son just assumed her name was Margaret. No death certificates are not always accurate.
