1. Obit for Either Cambridge or Sommerville MA [1]
I looked for a volunteer (none listed) to get an obit for Eunice Augusta NORRIS, who died Dec. 1 1898. She was married to George Norris and is buried in Cambridge, MA. I do not need the obit, but the information contained in it, such as marriage date, children, etc. I think her maiden name was Hartshorn, or else she may have been married before . 2. Question about New Salem, Massachusetts. [1]
List members, Was there a New Salem, MA in the early colonial times other than Salem in Essex County? Is there a Franklin County with such a village/town in early colonial times perhaps near Marshfield, MA? Thanks. Don Beattie in Maine.

The 1870 census of Rockport shows John N. and Mary A. Doherty John N. Doherty, aged 46, born Nova Scotia Mary A., aged 38 Elias A, aged 14 Mary, aged 11 Isaac, aged 9 Sarah, aged 6 John S., aged 4 George C., aged 2. The birth record for Mary E. Doherty on Nov 18, 1858 at Rockport gives the parents as John E. and Abigail. Says John E. was born in Ireland. The birth record for Elias on Dec 4, 1855 at Rockport gives the parents as John E. and Sarah. (This may be a copying error as the parents of the next
4. Treadwells in Ipswich [1]
Hi - new to the list but I'm heavily into genealogy. I know that the early (in the colonies) Treadwell clan had some roots in Ipswich. Can anyone lead me to sources? 5. Re: [MAESSEX] George S. BLISS [1]
These camps are just outside of Greenville. We are not related to George Bliss, we were just looking for information on him to be able to tell people a little about the person who wrote the journals that are in her possession. He travelled to ME to fish, but came from Lynn, MA, as far as we can judge, that is why I put it on this list. The journals are also available to read on the web:http://www.blissjournals.com/ Linda Thanks for responding! Nacelod@aol.com wrote: > >In a message dated 3/26/20

Mariana, Now that Ancestry has an every-name index for 1900 for MA, I was able to find Horace living in Arlington, MA. His parents are Ira W. and Ida M. He has a brother Harold W. and a sister, Fanny E. Horace was born July 1885; Harold, Oct 1896, and Fanny, Nov 1888. Horace was born in NH, but the two younger children were born in MA. Ira and Ida have been married for 16 years. She had 5 children of whom 3 are still living. Ira is a school teacher. They live on Mass Avenue in Arlington, #362. They

8. RE: [MAESSEX] Haverhill Library Woes [1]
The Amherst, New Hampshire library is alive and kicking. Their subscriptions to Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com have saved me a lot of research hours over the years. In addition, as there is a dearth of meeting space in our little village, the library is usually a beehive of activity and, other than the village market, one of the primary social hot-spots, not to mention one of the wireless hotspots! 10. Re: [MAESSEX] Haverhill Library Woes [1]
Good day, everyone. :-) The plight of the Haverhill Library, and, indeed, all libraries, is of deep concern to everyone, not just genealogists. Obviously, Haverhill is particularly important as it has one of the finest genealogical collections in the State - not to mention one of the most knowlegable men around in the Special Collections section. One step is to begin an active mailing program to those who control the funds. If someone in Massachusetts will get me the names of all MA legislators,

Cape Ann is an ill defined peninsula on the north shore of Massachusetts consisting loosely of Ipswich, Essex, Gloucester, Rockport and Manchester. 16. Re: MAESSEX-D Digest V05 #63 - Naming Patterns [1]
Naming Practices of the Past Naming patterns have been used throughout history. The one that most directly affects us in America is the one brought to the colonies from England and Wales during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. There were no rules concerning this practice, but it was adhered to by many. Many times a middle name may be a mother's maiden name, a practice to insure that her name was perpetuated in her new family. Here is the most common pattern: The first son was named
