According to "The History of Martha's Vineyard" by Dr Charles Banks, Vol III, pp 298-328 on the Mayhew Family, PAINE MAYHEW, b. 16 Mar 1734 in Chilton, MA; m. MARGARET WASS 17 Nov 1757; rem. to Chesterfield, and later to Williamsburg abt. 1782. He died in Charlemont, MA. Their son, LOTHROP MAYHEW, b. 31 July 1765; resided Williamsburg; m. Is there a listmember who could offer an opinion on a gravestone at Dwight Cemetery in Belchertown? I am trying to determine the ancestry of a Roswell (Rosel) KNOWLTON of Belchertown. The Knowlton genealogy by Stockwell and the extensive eratta to that genealogy give, I believe, an incorrect line for Roswell. One inconsistency I would like to understand concerns Roswell's gravestone, which is located at Dwight Cemetery. That stone says, "In memory of Rosel Knowlton Who died May 15th, 1805 Aged 60 years

Hello list, Until last Monday evening all I knew was my 3rd great-grandmother Clarissa D (for Davis) KEENEY was probably born in Massachusetts on 16 October 1801. I was then contacted by Cliff McCarthy who actually lives in a house in Belchertown built by a Davis! He is not a descendant either, just interested in the history of his house. Norma, There were corn broom factories in both Northampton and Hadley up till about 1943 or so. The buildings actually were more like barns where people performed this art. Don't know about Lowell which is about 60 miles from these 2 cities. Hope that helps. Peg Gingras

Gene, Are you related to Seth Warner in NC and interested in Goulds? Two excellent maps for Massachusetts are their "cities and towns map" and their "counties" map. They are found by starting at www.state.ma.us/sec/cis and following the menu for maps and then download these two maps. Amherst is in Hampshire Co.
