Ted,
You may want to take a bus ride out to Waltham Ma too, to the National
Archives (a branch of the main one that is in Washington DC). I haven't been
able to get out there yet, but you could call them and get hours etc when you
get here. It maybe worth spending an extra day. I have friends who had
quite a bit of success out there with their searches. Also have you gone on the
internet to Family History Library in Utah? That has helped me quite a bit.
Good luck!

Ted,
Regarding your WHEELER family in Medway, I checked our history "The New
Grant," by Francis D. Donovan, our former Town Clerk. On page 109 is this
reference, regarding the opening of the depot yard in 1853: "George
Wheeler, the lean and mustachioed engineer leaned in easy nonchalance from
his cab window . . ." The book isn't indexed, so there may be other WHEELER
notations, as well.
I asked a couple of our historians here in town about information
(including the author of the above book), and
Am hoping there is someone out there who can help me make sense out of an
apparent contradiction in the Medfield, Norfolk Co. Massachusetts Vital
RECORDS.
The individuals involved are:
(Deacon) Ephraim WHEELOCK b. 2 Mar 1696 Mendon Massachusetts and his 2nd of
5 wives Priscilla PLIMPTON d/o Joseph PLIMPTON Jr. & Priscilla PARTRIDGE.
the VR births lists 2 sons for this couple named Moses.
Moses s/o Ephraim & Priscilla b. 4 March 1735/36 Medfield.

Hello James -
Torrey's New England Marriages prior 1700 pg 563 says -
"PARTRIDGE, William & 1/wf Sarah PRICE [ - 1656] Dedham- Nov 1656, 23 Nov

Savage called her Sarah PIERCE
"PARTRIDGE, William [ - 1692] & 2/wf Sarah COLBURN [- 1715]

I don't find any place that Sarah COLBURN was married twice-
I do find her parents/siblings in Savage vol 2 pg 412 under

I shall be in Boston early Sep with about one day to work on family history. My interests include a Wheeler family in Medway circa 1820 and a Barnett family in Boston circa 1900. With no Boston experience, I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to how best to spend my time. My thoughts are the public library and the NEHGS. Your input would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Dorchester Births to 1710
Dorchester Marriages to 1725
This file contains a lot of people from other towns as well as
Dorchester. These 2 files will be brought up to 1825 as time permites.
These join the complete Dorchester vital records for 1826 to 1850 that
were typed by Dave Swerdfeger before.

Ted,
I would start at the Massachusetts Archives for the 1900 to 1910 and then I would go down the street to Massachusetts Vital Statitics for 1910 to 2000. What is nice about the Archives it is free and you can research both families there. The Massachusetts Vital's cost $9.00/hr to do research there. That is where I would start my research. Do you belong to NEHGS?? Where do you live??
I hope this helps??

Try Mass. Vital Stats for records after about 1910/1915 and Mass Archives
before that date. Both in Dorchester. The Archives is a great place to visit
and it is free.

Hi Ted -
You haven't said what you have for information on these two families. That
would be key to where you should spend the majority of your time. I live
just outside of Boston, so I am in there all the time (as a matter of fact,
I'm going there this afternoon). There are a few things that you should
know, if you don't already, about them:
Boston Public Library (www.bpl.org) has an extensive collection of national

Hello Massachusetts Researchers:
For those of you who have a deep interest in how, when and where your Surnames
were formed I would like to direct you to 5 new pages we have recently
added to our
web site.
Many researchers have for years believed that all ancestors with the same
Surname
were at some point related. That is simply not true.
When you get back to proving your pre 1500s ancestors you will discover
that there are
in fact many Surnames that have passed through many families that have no
