Thank you for the many posted and private responses to my original message.
Some have suggested that Do means "ditto" but I am inclined to think that,
in this case, the original record from which this was transcribed was
cropped. Plymo obviously = Plymouth and Do probably = Dover, Norfolk Co.,
MA.
No one seems to know why this record was published in the "Mayflower
Descendant."

I've looked at the index and all the other male GARDNER names (15) and
find none as a husband to Dorothy or as Dorothy as a child. I can not
find a maiden name.
I found a note on Internet that my ancestor JOHN WATERMAN (b. 19 Apr 1642,

(1670), served as a juror (1671, 1689, 1690), served on a coroner's jury
(1675), and sold land in Marashfield (1687). He also left a will.
My research both at our local library and at the Oklahoma Historical Society
has not revealed the source/proof of such facts. I already have proof of
birth/marriage/children/death, but need proof of the other facts listed

Any further insights towards proving or refuting my theory that Dorothy

the granddaughter of Ezra-4 & Dorothy (GARDNER) WHITMARSH would be sincerely

I thought the following might be interesting to the list, considering
some of us
are trying to find our "English" ancestry.
I've also been reading a book "The English A Portrait of a People" by
Jeremy Plaxman.
The author says in so many words that the Englishman lives in a world of
fantacy about who he is and what is typical of England.

Ezra's Whitmarsh's father Ezra was my direct ancestor,
who descended from Whitmarsh immigrants post-Pilgrim.
In my genealogy, I can find no route to a Mayflower passenger.
(His mother was Bathsheba Richards, and she descended from
immigrants who also came after the Pilgrims.)
Please let me know what your findings are.
Thanks,

Fred and Perry,
Fred, I think you are right that there is little room to doubt from the
context that "Do" was "Ditto."
I don't know if the Dorothy below is the right Dorothy, but the time,
place, and her background make her a good candidate I would think.
Bowman also published the VR for Marshfield, which is pretty much next to
Plymouth, and there are three mentions of a Dorothy Gardner in MD who was
born in Marshfield--here's one:
"Dorothy, d. of James Gardner and mary (sic) his wife was born January
