3. RE: GARDNER/WHITMARSH; Plymouth, MA; 1741 [1]
Thank you for the many posted and private responses to my original message. Some have suggested that Do means "ditto" but I am inclined to think that, in this case, the original record from which this was transcribed was cropped. Plymo obviously = Plymouth and Do probably = Dover, Norfolk Co., MA. No one seems to know why this record was published in the "Mayflower Descendant." -----Original Message----- From: Perry Streeter [mailto:perry@streeter.com] Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2001 10:14 PM To: ROOTS-L@

In the book: "Vital Records of Plymouth, Massachusetts to the year 1850" by Lee D vanAntwerp, 1993 Page 150. From: BOOK ONE [p 225] Marriages consummated by Saml. Bartlett Esq. Justice of the Peace for the County of Plymo. 1741, June 30 Mr. Ezra WHITMARSH or Plymo. & Mrs. Dorothy GARDNER of Plymo. at Plymo. ---------------------------- I've looked at the index and all the other male GARDNER names (15) and find none as a husband to Dorothy or as Dorothy as a child. I can not find a maiden name.
6. MAPLYMOU - JOHN WATERMAN [1]
I found a note on Internet that my ancestor JOHN WATERMAN (b. 19 Apr 1642, at Marshfield; died 14 Sep 1718 in Plympton, MA) was on a list of freemen (1670), served as a juror (1671, 1689, 1690), served on a coroner's jury (1675), and sold land in Marashfield (1687). He also left a will. My research both at our local library and at the Oklahoma Historical Society has not revealed the source/proof of such facts. I already have proof of birth/marriage/children/death, but need proof of the other facts listed
7. RE: GARDNER/WHITMARSH; Plymouth, MA; 1741 [1]
Fred, Harlow & Eugene: Thank you for your recent replies on this topic--you have been most helpful! Any further insights towards proving or refuting my theory that Dorothy (DYER) MINER was the dau. of James-5 & Dorothy (WHITMARSH) DYER, and thus the granddaughter of Ezra-4 & Dorothy (GARDNER) WHITMARSH would be sincerely appreciated. I have been seeking the will of James-5 DYER through "Random Acts..." volunteers but have had no luck to date. Perry 9. Allen-6 Miner (Jonathan Ransford-5, Jonathan-4, Th

9. England and Migration Debate [1]
There is a firestorm raging in England concerning the admission of migrants. (for England, understand it is the portion of the island below Scotland)* I thought the following might be interesting to the list, considering some of us are trying to find our "English" ancestry. I've also been reading a book "The English A Portrait of a People" by Jeremy Plaxman. The author says in so many words that the Englishman lives in a world of fantacy about who he is and what is typical of England. * From: Elizabeth

20. Re: GARDNER/WHITMARSH; Plymouth, MA; 1741 [1]
Ezra's Whitmarsh's father Ezra was my direct ancestor, who descended from Whitmarsh immigrants post-Pilgrim. In my genealogy, I can find no route to a Mayflower passenger. (His mother was Bathsheba Richards, and she descended from immigrants who also came after the Pilgrims.) Please let me know what your findings are. 21. RE: GARDNER/WHITMARSH; Plymouth, MA; 1741 [1]
Fred and Perry, Fred, I think you are right that there is little room to doubt from the context that "Do" was "Ditto." I don't know if the Dorothy below is the right Dorothy, but the time, place, and her background make her a good candidate I would think. Bowman also published the VR for Marshfield, which is pretty much next to Plymouth, and there are three mentions of a Dorothy Gardner in MD who was born in Marshfield--here's one: "Dorothy, d. of James Gardner and mary (sic) his wife was born January

There is a Gardner Genealogy which probably would shed some light on the matter. For an on-line genealogy of part of the Gardner family, visit: http://www.usigs.org/library/books/ma/SalemV1-1924/Salm_p68.htm (I am transcribing the book by Sydney Perley for USIGS and placing it in an html shell.) In there, "Dorcas" was ("Dorothy?") dau of Lt. Thomas Gardner. However, she probably married m. Robert Carver. I know Ezra Whitmarsh, the son of one of my ancestors, as Captain Ezra. However it would not be wr

Fred- I appreciate the the "notice" of these things as life is very busy for us and we could miss things we really want to see or hear. Keep up the notices of "things of possible interest". As much as I wish I could spend all day on genealogy, I can only only spent a minimum of time time on genealogy lately and need the services of a second "eye" as to the upcoming TV programs.
