We've talked before, but I didn't know about Hugh/David. Also, I got the county wrong in my original post. Samuel and Mary were married in Rowan County, North Carolina per my records.

I haven't been very successful finding ancestors for Samuel (who died intestate in 1775-1776, presumably young).
Samuel left three minor children (George, Sr., John and Margaret) and his wife, who remarried a James Armstrong.
I have good info on George and very little else.
Anyone related to these McCrackens?

1930 census has Mace McCracken and son Buster in Yoncalla, OR. Which son was he and where was the rest of the family? Can't help you with Mattie but I have Mace's line back to David Carlisle.
Does anyone have the name Edgar in their database anywhere. The youngest one
would have been born around 1910, or so. likely Pennsylvania, and possibly
in Altoona. Since the family 'scattered' he may have been in Illinois or
surrounding state.

Do you have any more info on George W. McCracken? My grandfather's name was
George W. McCracken. I have no other information to guide me in my search. He
married Maude E. Best. That's about all I have. Could this be the same? You
mention three different lines of McCrackens. I do believe his family came from
Pennsylvania. I would appreciate any information you may be able to give me
regarding G. W. McCracken. Thanks, BJ

Though this man, my Father died on May 4th at only the age of 68, the
other obituaries gave me the idea to submit this too. He was born in
northern PA with direct relatives in Clearfield & Tioga counties.

Phillip,
The Clearfield County McCrackens are a different lot. Clearfield MCCRackens
began with the McCracken married to Straw.
The WEstmoreland and Indiana County McCrackens are from a Joshua McCracken,
who married Jane Armstrong. They came to Indiana County around 1799 or so.
Also Indiana County History book states the first residents of Indiana County
came to that area and bought land from a McCracken, so he was already there.
I cannot tie my Joshua McCracken to another line as yet. There is t
The original James McCracken of Clearfield county PA did fight in
revolutionary war. Which might be that McCracken. There were some notes
about his family moving to Clearfield county after the war. So they were
not there after arriving in the "states" in the 1750s.

In 1837 Robert and Rebecca Spencer sold land in Green Co., PA. John and
Elizabeth Ireland sold land at the same time, to the same purchaser.
Both couples lived in Knox Co., OH at the time. We suspect that the wives
are sisters. We have proof that John Ireland married a woman named McCracken
(probably a daughter of David McCracken) and lived in Washington Co., PA, in
1820.
Any information about these couples would be appreciated.
