1. [MD-CEM] From List Mom - 3rd Quarterly Report 2001 [1]
Dear List Members, Here it is the end September and time for the Third Quarterly Report for 2001. This past month has been a difficult time for all of us, but we made it through it and each of us are trying to get back to normal, or as normal as we can again. Part of that getting back to normal is our quarterly reports. Again, for your information, the MD-CEMETERIES Mailing List has 242 members, 166 on the Regular list and there are 76 members on the Digest List. If you are interested in knowing about
2. [MD-CEM] CONNER/Keedysville [1]
Hello, I am looking for Edmund CONNER, wounded in the Battle of Anteitam, treated and died ( 20 Oct ) at 'General Hospital Smoketown, MD'. He was "properly dressed and buried, and his grave marked, so that his body can be obtained any time". Where is this cemetery, and is there an index for location of this grave? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Deborah

It's in Anne Arundel Co. and yes it has been at least partially recorded and you can find the records on line (along with photos) at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/md/anne/tsimages/woodward/baldwin-1.html I will be further updating it this week -- the R's & S's. 9. Re: [MD-CEM] CONNER/Keedysville [1]
Deborah, You didn't say where you got your information, where he was from, or what Keedysville in your subject means. From the description, he may very well have been shipped home and buried near home. Keedysville is about 3 miles east of Sharpsburg in Washington County, and there were probably hospitals there. I have the book "The Bivouacs of the Dead, The Story of Those Who Died at Antietam and South Mountain." It has lists of the known dead buried in 4 major cemeteries, the largest by far being the

Hi Helen, This cemetery is in Baltimore. I have a sister buried there 2 yrs ago. When I went back to visit the grave I couldn't find it at first. The office there has everything diagrammed out on a piece of cardboard they could show me on the cardboard where the grave was located, but once in the cemetery was very hard to find. After 2 yrs of persistence I finally found the grave. I plan on visiting the cemetery soon again and I would be glad to try and locate for you and take pictures of the marker i

Dear List Members: We are mourning and will be mourning for a long while, the tragedy which happened to us this week. I, as you, hurt and want to cry out and scream to the world "that something has to be done", "we hurt", "why". Those who lost loved ones will continue to need the support of their fellow man while they either wait for word of of their missing or are burying their dead. I expect no less of each one of us and the days pass. The time has come though, for us to begin the process of trying t

Dear List Members, we the human race experienced the full force of hatred today. The horror that was acted out upon the United States, does not only effect us, but it effects all man kind. Today we saw true hatred and world will never be the same. I ask each of you to be understanding for the next few days while messages are being posted to the lists that do not deal with the topic of the list. Many of our members live alone - and we, their fellow list members are their families. They need to talk, the

The Washington County Maryland, Cemetery Index should give you the location of your ancestor if he had a headstone. There is a copy of the 7 volume index at the Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740. Phone : 301-739-3250, Ext. 123. It has also been published by Dale Morrow but I don't know where you can buy it. Deborah: You didn't actually give a cemetery name. Here is a link to the Maryland Tombstone Transcription Project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/maryland.html And the direct link to Washington, Co. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/maryland/washington.html We, of course, don't have all the cemeteries cataloged/transcribed. Go to the County page from the Tombstone Page and see what resources are available for cemeteries. Additionally, finding an old grave is really kinda hard unless you really luck
