I am searching for anything about the GEER surname in the 1800 and 1810 MD
censuses. I do not have a county or given name, and would appreciate anything
available. One hint is it might have been the "Cumberland" Valley.
Thank you very much for your time.

Also try the spelling GEHR.

My thanks to all who answered and gave suggestions about the GEER surname in
the MD 1800 and 1810 censuses.
I have a feeling that my Mary nee GEER CARSON was from Cumberland Co., PA,
and not MD, as was previously believed.
A Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Jean,
My 1930 MD index isn't showing any results for these family members anywhere
in MD. I tried searching for Rosella and the sons also, with no results.
You
might try subscribing to the Washington Co., MD mailing list and ask if
anyone
would have access to a 1930 city directory. If no one on that mailing list
can help,
try contacting the Washington Co. MD Historical Society to see if they have
old copies of City Directories where the family would be listed.

Jerusalem was the former name of what became Funkstown, on the eastern edge of Hagerstown, the county seat of Washington County. My great grandfather moved there from Weverton, bought three newly platted town lots, and after the War of the Northern Aggression was over, he bought an 80-acre farm on Funkstown Heights, now a historical house.
