I don't know. One of the lists that I subscribe to that is hosted by
Rootsweb, but not genealogy related, was down on Thursday and part of Friday.
Then on Friday evening I got about 200 messages. After that there has been
nothing. I have been getting a few messages from the other genealogy lists

They show up in different house holds, 374 for Newton and his wife,
Caroline and 379 for Wm. R. Dawson and his wife Ruth. There is a 35 year
old Sarah Dawson living with William and Ruth, her occupation is house
keeper and she was born in Maryland.

Patti,
From my experience with C.W. Sheaver in the 1870 district #4 census, He
has butchered the spelling of a number of the folks I am researching.
That could explain the "Lotte" spelling. By the time he reached Lott &
Rebecca (dwelling 828) it is quite likely that he mistakenly marked Lott
as a female. He had covered 828 dewllings between August 1 and August
26. That's an average of nearly 32 dwellings a day, if he worked every
day. There is plenty of other evidence to demonstrate that Mr Sheaver

Folks,
In a search for information on the Barnum and Revere Houses in
Cumberland, I found an account of the capture of Generals Crook and
Kelly as told by one of the participants. It is quite a story. It is
well worth checking out:

Shortly, I hope to be able to add pictures as well.

Hi Pauline,
My Grandmother was Mary Charlotte Moomau b. in Mineral Co., WV. I've found
the family to be well researched by Doug Mumma. http://www.mumma.org/
Doug is very helpful if you contact him.
He also sponsored a DNA project which proved most spellings are related to
each other and to the surname Momma in Germany.
I have an Elizabeth Moomau b. 1855 in Pendleton, VA but she married George
Wiseman.
Good Luck,
Joanna

Does anyone have any further information on this murder?
Cumberland Daily Times - Thursday January 28, 1875
HOMICIDE NEAR ORLEANS - NORMAN TWIGG, son of Mr. HARRISON TWIGG, lock keeper

North Branch is just about 2 miles(back then) out of Cumberland , going East on Old Rt. 51. It is not a town, just a place where the railroad goes through. My Mom was born there. Today it would be behind the District 16 Fire Dept., the old PPG plant is back behind that.

Occassionally, one sees a reference to Hoffa families in Allegany County
and nearby Pennsylvania. Well, famous Teamster union leader Jimmy Hoffa
was son of John Hoffa and Viola, and John was said to be "Pennsylvania
Dutch". John had settled in Indiana by the time Jimmy was born in 1913.
Might there be a connection with the famous labor leader and the local
Hoffa families?

Saint Johns Parish is located on Old Branch Avenue. Clinton MD 20735. It is a very old old parrish in the area and should prove invaluable to anyone who thinks an ancestor of theirs was a member.
I know some of my Middleton's were members in the 1700's and married there. I'm sure records are available, but I don't know who you would contact.

Hi,
I am interested in hearing from anyone who is researching the Mummau,
Moomau etc. families .
I am not having much luck in getting any information on these families . My
husband's Great Grandmother was Eliza Moomau ? Brown , she married John
Brown and lived in Cedar Creek, Va. ....
They had eight sons, John was extremely mean to her , she left him . She
married Jake Hebb and moved to Pittsburg, Pa. Pauline Brown

Hi Gang:
I want to share a little story with you about a particular experience I

The Great Spinach War

occurred an incident that every child dreads and revisits in childhood
nightmares. At lunchtime, we were served up the rare combination of
overcooked spinach, an old-fashioned teacher who

Looking for further information on Simon, Isabel and

where or how!
Thanks for any info. Glad to share some pics I've
