This is a really long shot, and I know I'm asking the wrong county, but ya'll
are so helpful
Does someone have a marriage book for Washington County that would cover
1868? Or are records online?
The groom would be Hiram LAIZURE/LEASURE, etc. The bride was Talitha Ann
WATSON. She might have gone by Eliza Ann Watson.
DATE: August 1 or August 3, 1868.
Thank you,
Sharon Laizure Hofer.
I will forward your message to one of my cousins on the Platt side. They married into my SLIDER family. Maybe they can help you.

True!! And that's where they were from originally. However, all of us
researching John Llewellyn seem to be stumped at the same place -- where WAS
John before western Maryland?? My husband's family tells this story (who
knows if there's truth to it or not!!) -- Supposedly John Sr. came to the US
(possibly with wife #1 or got married here to wife #1). Supposedly had a
rather large family, but wife #1 didn't like it here and

The families that I'm looking for are Brimlow, Evans, Alexander, Morgan,
Cooper, Walker, Rae, Merriman, Chapman and Davis. They were from the areas
of Frostburg, Carlos, Lonaconing, and Borden Shaft. The Brimlow and Evans
families date to 1860's and the others would be closer to 1900. The Evans,
Merriman, and Morgans immigrated from Wales. The Brimlow fam
I only know of the German Lutheran Church Cemetery in Frostburg but I do
believe there is one in Cumberland also. Just unsure where in Cumberland.

Wendy it sounds like we are looking for the same group of Friends. I am also
looking for a John Friend and his wife's name was Catherine. He migrated
from the Allegany county area and got a Spanish land grant in the late
1700's in Southeast Missouri in what is now Scott county with the county
seat being Benton which is close to where his land grant was. I believe he
served in the Revolutionary War. His daughter Elizabeth married my GGGF
Darius McMullen. Hope this is the same line.

Hello,
How far back can we find the marriage records for Allegany County?
I am looking for the record of Joseph N. Jones and Elizabeth A. Porter. I
believe they were married in November of 1863, but Jones is such a common
name I would like to get this verified.
Thanks so much, Linda G.

Sorry I forgot to include the names of the ancestors who were not in the 1850
census.
They were Michael Pendergast, possibly Mary Mullarkey/Malarkey (whom he
married in Cumberland in 1855) and John Roan/Rowan/Rowen who married Bridget
McMahon in Westernport in 1851. I had someone check Frederick County and
Baltimore for these folks but had no luck. Since the National Road and the
railroad could have provided employment as well as transportation I thought
that these people were enroute but had not yet a
Martha,
Hey, this is Kim Freed who posted the message on the Dye Society. I
was very suprised to see this posted on this site. May I ask what Dye family
you are researching? Maybe we might have some connection with our Dye's.
That's if you are researching the Dye's. Let me know.
I am researching the Dye,Beeman, Phillips, Richter, Wells, Miller families.
I am looking for any information on the Dye's mainly.

I have been unable to find my ancestors in the 1850 census in Allegany
County. I know one of them married in Westernport in 1851 and the other
married in Cumberland in 1855 (and was in the U.S. in 1849-citizenship
application info) but neither one were in Allegany County when the census was
taken. I do not know which port they entered so that makes it difficult to
"guess" where they were prior to marrying in Allegany County. These folks
were Irish and one of them worked for the railroad. With that
Linda,
The Courthouse in Cumberland has marriage information dating back to the
1860's. I found my great grandfather and grandmother who married in 1869.

For those of you who are interested in this wonderful book, just got this
from the Book Center book store.
Connie
The information for "Land of the Living" is cost $49.95, tax of $2.50 (if
purchased in store or shipped within MD), and we are charging $5.50 to ship
via UPS. The book is quite heavy/thick and we have found that the UPS
tracing ability is a wonderful benefit for both parties. I certainly
appreciate all that you and the website does to spread the word of the local
history items available.
Lois, I answered you off line, but it may not have reached you. No, so
far neither I nor anyone else that I know of, has found anything on the
death of Benjamin Thomas. At the moment I am in Massachusetts but will
be going back to NC tomorrow and will email again from there. Pat

There is no cemetery behind Frostburg State University. I still live in the
area and grew up there and cannot recall ever seeing a cemetery near the
University.
The largest cemetery in Frostburg is the Frostburg Memorial Park but it's a
good ways from the college. There's a Percy Cemetery, old and small, at the
west end of Main Street; a large Catholic Cemetery located at the very
northern top of tow
I'm afraid I have no Dyes in my family that I know of--I was responding to
the mention of Jeremiah Bonham (m. Eleanor McDonald and lived in Hampshire
Co., WV near Levels).
Good luck!

I can't say that there are not others, but St. Lukes is German Lutheran
congregation and their cemetery is in Cumberland .... I was there Friday

someone else can probably give you better directions than I. If you stand
on Baltimore St/Ave downtown, with your back to the creek and then follow
Baltimore out across the tracks and up the hill aways, the street/road runs
along the cemetery (cemetery is on the left)...

I have Eve Root in the 1830 and 1840 Census in Allegany County, District

Red House, MD in Garrett County, but not sure.
I cannot find her in 1850.(Her children were in Preston and Taylor

In 1860, Eva Elizabeth Root is in Allegany County, District 10, p. 677
living with the Kildow family in Oakland on Water Street. Does anyone
know if this is the same locale as the 1

I also have WISE in my family line, but could never find anything on this family.
Would you know of a Margaret Wise who married Espy Levi Steckman?
