George, you gave me my giggle for the day - thanks for sharing
that with us. Your story brings up a point to remember when we
are cursing the enumerators. Funny, my gr grandfather was also
an enumerator in the 1880 census (Arthur Hamilton).

Actually, not necessarily long or tedious--fill out a request form at your

Hi Martha,
Will do - thank You!

Here is the information that I have for Owen Monahan from Midland from the
index card. I don't recall it being blurred.

If they can't find the certificate from your information, they will send
your money back.
The death certificates are hand written and the name of the person who
provided the information is on it. The information cannot be declared
totally accurate. The relatives, etc. who provide the information sometimes
do not know it

According to "Allegany County, a History" (Stegmaier, et al, 1976), Father
Badin's masses in 1792, would not have been the first masses in Allegany
County. They were later than the masses of Father Dennis Cahill, a
missionary priest who ministered to the Catholics of the Cumberland area,

My husband's links to the RAFFERTY surname is via the marriages of Anastasia and/or Marcella. They are the daughters of Brigetta nee CHAMBERS SCALLY. Brigetta and my husband's grandfather John Benedict CHAMBERS were brother and sister.
If she would be interested also, we will be down in the area from Tuesday nest 18 October to 20 October, staying at the Braddock Inn in LaVale. Plan to drop off updated family histories in

Dear Ancestor,
Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and alone,
The name, the date, are chiseled out in weather-beaten stone.
It reaches out for all to see, it is too late to mourn,
You did not know I would exist, you died and I was born.
Yet each of us are part of you, in flesh, in blood, in bone,
And in my breast there beats a pulse entirely not my own.
Dear ancestor, the

Perhaps Carol or Connie may know something here. I do know that in most PA
counties there was a window from 1852-1854 when the counties DID keep
birth/marriage/death records, with mixed results--HUGE compliance problems. A book
was published with those records for Bedford and Somerset Counties. I don't
know if this held for MD; other states seemed to have done the same thing.
After that, there was a broad lapse until the 1890s.
Other states began keeping records by county in the early 1850

I agree here. Mr. Burgess is now located in what used to be the Orphans'
Court area.
About 10 years ago I had Barbara Hamilton order an Equity file created in

Doe any of the Hudsons being mentioned on the list connect to the Hudsons of

My gr-grandmother was Mary Ann (Mollie) Hudson. She was the daughter of

but all the census records have her listed as being born in VA (could have
been WV after 1863?). Robert was born in DE. It appears that most of the

To anyone who is looking for Rafferty or Winner, I spoke with my friend,
Kaye Larkin. Her mother was Kathleen (Rafferty) Winner from Lonaconing. .
The Weimers were related to her through her father, Vernard. If anyone

Hi Linda,
Yes, Thank You for the info on microfilm.
I will try to check out availability on that

Maybe some more advice -
What I am really trying to do is locate
a place of origin for the Greenwade family.
Thomas Greenwade our first known American
ancestor shows up on Deakins List in 1788 on
Lot 3581. Before that there is no record of the
man that we have been able to find.
We believe Thomas died between 1820 and
1830 (based upon census reports). However,
we do have a firm date of deat
Can someone give some insight as to the differences one would find
between the two methods or the best way of working with both research
methods [on site vs microfilm].
If all you want is the facts, mam, then the LDS microfilms are just fine.
However NOTHING out there will replace the feelings I had when holding the
actual, real thing wills written by Cornelius Willison in 1798 and the will
written by James Dando in September 1904. I've held them and just felt
these people in my blood.
