1. [MDCECIL] Richard Johns of the Clifts, Calvert Co, 6-15-1717 [1]
Two of the testators to the will of Richard Johns whose will was dated 6-15-1717 in Calvert Co Md were Jno. Wilkinson and Elizabeth Wilkinson. Can anyone tell me who Jno. And Elizabeth were? Thanks, Carol B. Miller
2. [MDCECIL] Captain John CARR's heirs [1]
Did Captain John CARR have a daughter Anne, who married ___ Johnson? John CARR married Petronella TUSSEY, lived in New Castle, but moved to Maryland in 1674. he had a big tract of land, "St. John's Manor" on the west side of Elk River. Captain John CARR and his wife had children: Richard, Elizabeth, Maria and Petronella CARR. John CARR died in 1676. Petronella (the widow) remarried to George OLDFIELD, and they had a daughter, Susannah OLDFIELD. Elizabeth CARR married Peter CLAWSON; Maria married John BRIS
3. Re: [MDCECIL] Captain John CARR's heirs [1]
Thanks so much for your interest, Judy. I appreciate your thoughts & ideas very much. > Could Ann JOHNSON have actually been a GRANDdaughter of Capt John CARR? Could be. I need a will abstract for Peter Mainardo, however he spelled it. He supposedly had three daughters: 1. Elizabeth 2. Ann 3. Petronella Have this cryptic note, with no reference: "Emily Minerdoe was mentioned in the will of Edward Johnson" --whoever he was, whenever that was. Hendrick Mathias(on) (Freeman) sold 500 acres in 16
4. Re: [MDCECIL] Captain John CARR's heirs [1]
Liz, Could Ann JOHNSON have actually been a GRANDdaughter of Capt John CARR? I've had a relationship "skip" a generation when mentioned in a land record before. This might be especially possible given 50 years had passed since Capt John CARR's death when this land record was written. Judy
5. [MDCECIL] the REALL family? [1]
Has anyone information about the REALL family --if they were a family? How were the REALLs of Cecil County related? Sometime around 1715, Helletie aka Elenor PETERSON, a daughter of Adam PETERSON of Appoqunimink Hundred in New Castle County, Delaware, married Hercules REALL. Her son, Hercules REALL, born about 1715, became a cooper who lived in Philadelphia. In 1737, he sold a tract of land in Appoqunimink Hundred --his mother's share of her father's land there. Hercules sold it to his mother's uncle, Andr
6. Re: [MDCECIL] MD Wills [1]
Dear Alan, Thanks for posting this book and of course all your hard work I appreciate it all. I've been using your index for the MD Calendar of Wills Vol 4 - 1713-1720; I have looked for John Henrick listed in Index p 195 and Henry Henrix listed in index p 149 per index and cannot find a mention on those pages or adjacent pages. I also looked on the original pages of the wills and found nothing also. Do you have any clue as to how I should look further or is this index not very accurate? Thanks. Her
7. Re: [MDCECIL] Halls of Cecil Md [1]
May I pop into this HALL discussion and ask if anyone knows of a CHAMBERS HALL? He is a mystery-man in my research. In 1760 my Thomas Garrett of New Castle Co. Del. was in financial straits. His step-mother had him in Orphans Court demanding money from him as he was Executor of his father's will, John Garrett. All his cash was tied up in his property and so he was forced to sell at Sheriff's sale his mill and farm in Christiana Hun. Thomas had also inherited from his father 620 acres in
8. Re: [MDCECIL] Samuel Chambers, Anne Sanders Gassaway, abt 1700, AA county [1]
Ellen, Thanks so much!! That marriage record pretty much confirms it for me! I did already have a copy of the will. Although the name apparently is hard to read, I am really glad he was named Jonas, not James or John. He has been much easier to trace because of his name, which is not common in the Chambers family. I actually have recently found a Sanders name connected with the Burke Co Ga land plats for this family, as well. I got some very useful information from the Cecil Co Historical Society about
9. Re: [MDCECIL] John Hall, Peter Justice [1]
One John Hall was a JP in Cecil Co as early as 1701, when he was mentioned as JP in a deed ("Middle Plantation") sold by James Symms of Charles Co. to Col. John Thompson of Cecil Co. [p. 59 Abstracts of Cecil County land Records 1673-1751, Brown] --land on north side of Sassafras River One John Hall "of Baltimore Co., gent" and wife Martha deeded 200 acres of "Bournington" for L60 and because they are moving, to Bennett Lowe of Cecil Co. on 31 July 1719. They appointed James Frisby of Cecil Co. as atty to
10. Re: [MDCECIL] Early Cecil County Deeds [1]
Marianne, Sorry to hear about your mother. I lost my last August at age 84. Bless you for what you are doing. One thing to keep in mind is that part of Cecil Co was actually in Chester Pa until, I think it was abt 1764, don't know if you knew this. East Nottingham was in dispute for a long time between the two states. 11. Re: [MDCECIL] MD Calendar of Wills, Vol 4 [1]
Liz, This information came off CD# 184, FTM Family History: Colonial families of Maryland - 1600 - 1900's. A researcher from Pittsburgh had a list of name's and where he had found places the information was located. The CLAWSON one was listed below. There is a writting on the CLAWSON Family, Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, Vol. 11, 78 (Y) Most likely in the Lancaster, Pa., area. You may want to contact the Lancaster County Historical Society to see if they have anything. Remember that line s

I have a NICHOLAS CHAMBERS SHAW, born 1812. His father Thomas Shaw married Ann Vail in 1810 in Cecil County, MD. Anybody see a connection of these two families? 13. [MDCECIL] Mathiason questions [1]
Here's another one that is melting my brain. Can anyone here explain who was the Mathias Cornelius, that owned the tract, "Corneliaston"? Who he was related to, or who his wife and children may have been? Does anyone have the names of the four sons of Mathias Mathiason (Freeman)? Here's my puzzle: In 1658, Mathias Cornelius --probably he was the son of someone called Cornelius --patented the tract, "Corneliaston." This place was next to Hendrick and Mathias Mathiason (alias Freeman)'s land "Mathyason"

18. Re: [MDCECIL] CLAWSON information [1]
Liz, There is no description other than what was shown, and the reason I mentioned Pennsylvania, in particular Lancaster, was the author of the article stated that area. He had a compiled list of family names where he had located places where he had found the actual writting. So CLAWSON was one of those family names he had found some information and where it was located. Whatever magazine article it had shown and where he had seen it. I looked through my Tombstone Inscriptions of Cecil County but there we

22. [MDCECIL] Need will Maryland Calendar of Wills Vol. 4 1713-1720 [1]
Does someone have access to Maryland Calendar of Wills Vol. 4 1713-1720, by Baldwin? I need a will for Peter CLAWSON or CLAUSON (or Classon), of Cecil County. Last record I can find is a deed of some land in December 1705, to his daughter Mary and son-in-law Henry Guilder "because he is moving." But his will is not found in Vol III of Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol 3. Thanks very much, Liz J
