Basil Hagan married Priscilla Langley in Nelson County, Kentucky in 1815. I cannot find his birth date or his parents in Nelson County. I realize there are many Basil Hagans but was the Basil that merried Priscilla born in Charles County, Maryland? Who were his parents? Was he a descendant of Thomsa the Immigrant? Any help appreciated.
I agree that there should be a connection between William Nelson and Sarah
Nelson, but I can't find one. Possibly William was first married to Sarah
and he later married Alice. He did name Alice as his wife in his will in
1781. By the way, in part one of the material you sent, notice was given of
intention to take depositions of several witnesses. One was Mrs. Alice
Nelson, but I didn't get that one. Did I miss it?

I was soooo happy to see your sources Betty for the 3 marriages of
Mary. I am a direct descendant of the Rookwood family and have not
seen the original source for her marriages, although I have seen
mention of them on the internet.
I'm sending along John GOSLING and Simon GOSLING's wills which might
help. Hope this helps someone. Cecy Rice, 5th great granddaughter of

Hi, Ann,
I wish it said more about how Richard was related to the Rookwoods! This is a
puzzle solution to which I haven't got a clue, other than those you guys gave
me.
That Zachariah Wade (1703-1737) was the son of Richard Wade (1664-1727) and his
second wife, Mary Glover (1665-1728).

It looks like there is no connection. My Nelsons stayed in Charles County
until 1838 when they moved to Shelby County, Alabama. A possibility is my
Thomas Nelson's half-brothers. They moved to Prince William County VA when
their mother remarried to William Tebbs. They were Abner Nelson (born ca

Ashreill/Ashwell Nelson (born ca 1766, nothing found on him after April

If you look at the census, there were two persons who could have been the man
named "Isle of Wight" who was born in Maryland. On the 1810 Kentucky census, the
family in Flelming county listed as "Iliff". Ancestry has the second one as
"Isleaf Wight" in Bardstown, Nelson, KY, whose widow Elizabeth was still there
in 1820. On the original census page, the writing is easily read as "Isle of
Wight", there appearing to be a break between the two words. According to the
Ancestry search engine, there was als

Would everyone please be kind and put a heading in the subject line? It's not hard. And it just might bring an answer. With all the spam getting through the restraints any message from someone unknown with no subject heading --- well, it gets tossed.........
Thanks..........Carol Collins
I am looking for a Smith family, probably living in Charles County
aroune 1748-1750. I have no idea what the husband's given name was, but
the wife was Elizabeth.
If any of you are researching a Smith family living in or about Charles
County at that time, please reply.

My husband has an Eliza (Elizabeth) Nelson as a several great
grandparent. All we know of her is that she married Daniel Berryman
Shumate, 23 Jan 1802 in Fauquier Co, Virginia, where the Rookwood's
went. We don't know her parents. Wonder if there is a connection. Cecy Rice
Norma,
My source for John Nelson's widow's next marriages is The Land Records of

Betty, I was interested in the fact that your Nelsons moved to Shelby Co. Ala. in 1838. My family also moved from Charles Co. to Shelby Co. Alabama about that time!
I have never been able to find the connection, but my Dad, whose middle name was Nelson, always said he was named for a relative.
Our names from Charles Co. to Shelby Co. were Finney and Posey. Do you know of a connection with either of these families and the Nelsons?
Thanks, Jo Ann

Marlene, did your Smiths from Charles County go to KY with the early members
of the MD League? If so, then I'm sure someone has some connections.
My Smith connection is Mary Ellen Smith, daughter of William Smith and Sarah

from SMC, MD and William from MD, but I don'tknow which county.

What happened to Isle of Wight (White)?
I have a large White family in Kentucky. The head of the household and one
of his sons is named Ilaf (as spelled in his Will by a Lawyer named Joshua
Strachen). Will written and executed 1808 in a court session held for Fleming
County. The head of this household was evidently illiterate as he signed by
"mark". The family had strong Methodist ties in Indiana. In "Ilaf's" Will his
wife is named Mary. The daughters of "laf" were listed in his Will as Mille

Hi, Betty,
Sorry, I see how they would be related by your scenario. Senior moment, I guess.
Darn!
I don't have any info on John Nelson's wife having married Edward Rookwood. I'd
appreciate it if you would tell me where that info came from. I have John
Nelson's wife as Mary Davis, d/o Griffith Davis (in his will, John Nelson named
Griffith Davis as his father-in-law).
I have Edward's first marriage before 8 Jun 1680 to Mary Shuttleworth, daughter
of Thomas Shuttleworth (1630-1704) and Elizabeth Troop
