For Rick Saunders:
Thanks for your reply to my query as to when William Hungerford married Ann
Smoot. I was casting at straws as I can find no marriage record in
Maryland. I suspect the marriage was 1655 as she would be 15 yrs. old--a
more common marriage age than 14. I wonder how old he was. He came into
the Province in 1646. From England? From Virginia? And on Feb. 20,
1647/48 petitioned Margaret Brent for wages for himself and several soldiers
so I assume he was a soldier. Due to the time perio
Nelson White and Elizabeth Perry were each born in Maryland households in the
1790's. Both families migrated to Eastern Kentucky where Nelson and
Elizabeth were married in Flemingburg, KY about 1820. The Whites were Methodists in
Indiana where the family moved after the birth of their children.
I am searching for those families. I think they were connected by some
cultural group in MD and were part of a group move. Do you have any advice on how I
should proceed,

Hello again Dianne,
I am not sure if you were asking me or someone else on the list,
but if me then yes I meant Wheeler. I don't know how in the world I typed in
Middleton. I reckon I was typing fast in a hurry to get off the computer to
go somewhere or something and was not paying attention. Perhaps I was
hungry, Ha! Ha!.
Yes, Causine is what I was told by the one person about being
the maiden name of Maj. John Wheeler's wife. But as far as my saying that
his wife was a Mary Edelen,

I am looking for a will on a Benjamin Jameson of Charles Co. whose estate was
being administered in 1832. I am estimating his death between 1830-32, but I
could be off by a year or two. Is there a Charles Co. Index of Wills? Would
anyone happen to have a copy that could share the will number? Or any
suggestions of where I could access this information? Would appreciate any
information at all. Thank you!

Hi, I believe that Robert Perry of Charles county is the ancestor of a lot
of Perrys in the area of Lexington and Anderson County, KY. Robert died
about 1843 in Anderson County, KY. He has a daughter Elizabeth that would
fit the time frame you mention. Elizabeth is the daughter of Robert and his
first wife, Miss Ratcliff who was the daughter of Burdette Ratcliff of
Charles County.
I agree that it seems a group went from Charles County to KY but don't know
the reason. I have information on a lot of the

Hi Anne,
I would say she that Ann SMOOT was most likely married to William HUNGERFORD in Maryland, based on:
1. She was SMOOT when transported from VA to MD by her father in 1646.
2. She made a statement in 1661 regarding her husband William HUNGERFORD, 6 or 7 years ago "before she was marryed."
>From those two records, we know at the earliest she was married was 1654 or 1655. Her husband was deceased by 20 Mar. 1658 [probably 1658/9].

NATHANIEL HARRIS was my 5X's g grandfather and I've never been able to find

grandfather THOMAS HARRIS, but have not found any proof of this.
Thank you and take good care,

Sharon,
I don't have your Bowlings, but the few I do have may be their Ancestors. I

Marsham in the name also!
Anyway, maybe they will help you.

I have an interest in the Hungerford / Gwinn families. Some of my
information indicates but does not prove that Ann wife of William
Barton and widow of William Hungerford was the daughter of Robert Cager.
The information from the Maryland State Archives was difficult for me to
understand with any certainty. Vol. 41, pages 455, 469, and 470
establishes that she was the widow of William Hungerford and wife of
William Barton but seems to me implies she is the daughter of Robert
Cager. I th

Hello again all,
One more thing I thought I would send y'all's way. I was looking through my White family info (from SC), and noticed that a couple of members of the James family of Kent Co., Md, married into the White line, or vica virca. All I have is who these two White women married, two James brothers I think, and who the parents of the two James brothers were up in Kent Co., Md.. Just thought I would share that in case someone might be interested.
Sincerely,

The discussion re Ports of Entry is interesting. The following fact is quoted online from time to time:
The population of Maryland of 500/600 people at Ingle's raid dropped to under 100, fewer than had come on the Ark and Dove eleven years before.
Some articles say that those who left fled to the northern neck of VA. That was about 1645.
(Hard to believe that the population was under 100 - not sure that I do) If the above is true, then those who had come into MD ports of entry may have fled to VA about
Thanks to "Bruce" for his information relative to Margaret Brent. Actually,
my interest is William Hungerford. A friend is researching the Whites and

I began to wonder if anyone with information on William White (Maryland
1646) could help me with William Hungerford, same date. Hence my query re
the Whites.
I know William Hungerford was in Maryland 1646 and had died by 1658. He was
married to Anne Smoote. She was the daughter of
I will be visiting Charles County next week for an afternoon of research. I
am particularly looking for deed or court records for the period 1740-1770.
Are these available in the courts? I am following up on a lead of Nathan

Trinity Parish Vestry Book. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I have read with interest the messages about Ports of Entry and Migration to Maryland. I live in Eastern NC and have been researching Eastern NC families for 20 years. I can tell you that most of our early migrants came from VA or MD. If you get out a good map of VA/MD/NC and see how they relate to the Chesapeake Bay, it then becomes very clear how easily these people moved about. Also remember, roads were poor at best if they even existed.
I was told some years ago that when Maryland was settled it was
Hello Anne,
All I know for sure is that my 5th great grandfather was Col.
Henry White who settled in Spartanburg, S.C.. He came from Va to there, I
think from Orange Co where some of his kids were born. But my great
grandfather wrote that as far as he could find out was that in the early
1700s two brothers came from Britain to America, one settleing in Va and the
other in SC., he being Henry White. I do know that all through the years
from then to now the Whites branched out and migrated to many

Hello Greg,
While I have nothing on the Sotheron line, I did notice that
your last name was White. Are you or any of your Whites from SC? My Whites
are from SC, but many branched out to other places over the years. I have my
line of Whites back to when they came to SC. I am descended from Col. Henry
White who finally settled in Spartanburg, S.C.. If it is the same Whites as
yours, I will be glad to share my file with you. Just give me a hollar if
interested.
