Sorry, Pat, I forgot to address your last question. ----- Original Message ----- From: > QUESTION: Is the Eleanor Hawkins of the 1752 will with sister Mary the > daughter of some other person than Henry Holland Hawkins? HHH did not > mention a dau. Mary in his will. This Eleanor Hawkins was the daughter of Thomas Hawkins and Sarah Middleton. This is an abstract of Eleanor's will. 2. [MDCHARLE-L] Another JAMESON of Charles Co. [1]
While I can't help you with Teresa, I am interested in one Mary Jameson 'of Charles Co.'. None of the following is verified (I haven't worked my way back to that time yet). >From my wife's mother's cousin: Mary JAMESON 'of Charles Co.' m. Marsham QUEEN [1700-1771]. They had 11 children. One son was Richard QUEEN who purportedly left 2 acres to Archbishop John Carroll, in a 1794 will - the beginnings of Queen's Chapel, MD. Marsham QUEEN was the son of Samuel QUEEN [ -1711] and Katherine MARSHAM [1672-
3. [MDCHARLE-L] SMOOT [1]
Thank you to those who wrote me stating Donnelly identified the William SMOOT (who died about 1753) with wife Eleanor as the son of William SMOOT and Ann PENN, and grandson of Thomas SMOOT and Elizabeth BARTON. The following would show her statement to be in error, and identify William who died about 1753 as the son of Barton SMOOT and wife Sarah (SMITH), widow of Henry HAWKINS, Jr., and still the grandson of Thomas SMOOT and Elizabeth BARTON. Barton SMOOT in his will written 22 September 1744 and proved
4. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Thomas Stone and his Hoskins relations. [1]
Hi, Janet, Thank you for that reference and transcript. Now I know the people publishing on the net weren't just making things up! Does the book give a reference for the statement that Martha Hoskins married Thomas Stone before 26 May 1729? After a rather quick look, I don't have a relevant document with that date. It would be interesting to learn which one it is. The Thomas Stone usually given as Martha's husband died before 7 Nov 1727 when his will was proved. Bye, Norma

7. [MDCHARLE-L] HOSKINS, MOLOHON, MUDD etc. [1]
Dear List: This is my semi-annual plea to reach anyone who might have any info on my permanent brick wall Joseph R. (Randle, Randall, Randolph) HOSKINS (Hodskins). Here's what I have on him so far... He was born circa 1758 probably in Charles or St. Mary's County MD, but possibly in VA. (Ky Catholic Pioneers Rolling Fork Settlement lists the marriage of Ann "Nancy" Hoskins to Dixon Kirk and lists her father as "Rudolph Hoskins of VA" Are Randolph and Rudolph the same guy??) He enlisted in the Revo
8. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] SMOOT, HAWKINS, POSEY [1]
Hello List, I know this is not going to help with our finding out the maiden name of Eleanor that married William Smoot. But I recently found this info, and I thought I would put it out because it fits with the topic. What I thought was interesting is the last line. Specifically: Sarah, d/o William Smith. Was this an error? Is this Deed of Gift the Will that is being referred to here? Or is there a Will? >Sarah was referred to as Sarah SMITH in the will of her father Alexander SMITH written 12 >Dec. 1668
9. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Another JAMESON of Charles Co. [1]
Dave et al: I have this in my files: From: ma.da@gte.net (Melissa T Alexander) Charles Brashear says Katherine was not the daughter of Giles Brent. She was "in service" in 1670, i.e. born in England and transported as an indentured servant to Maryland (Patent Liber 12, Folio 512, Liber 7, Folio 530, cited in The Early Settlers of Maryland, Gust Skordas, Genealogical Publishing Co, Baltimore, 1968) "Marsham, Katherine Liber 12, Folio 512 Service 1670. 10. [MDCHARLE-L] Warren-Philpott Walker? [1]
Edward Philpott was born abt 1597 and married very late in life--around 1660. (I find this very hard to believe, but he made a couple of depostions declaring his age.) No record has been found that shows when he came to America, but it seems to be around 1636-40. He was an indentured servant to Thomas Mitchell, de la Brooke, Buskin/Burkin,Thomas Gerrard. His services were sold by one to the other. He evidently prospered. He probably married Bridget/Bridgett/Briget/Brigit ? around 1659, as son Edward w
11. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Hawkins, Smoot, Thomas [1]
There are a fair number of people in Nelson Co. descended from the Marshalls of Marshall Hall. I've looked into them a little. It seems to me that in one of her books, Elise Jourdan gave Elizabeth Marshall as the Hawkins wife, and then in a later revision or correction questioned whether she was old enough to be the mother of the Hawkins children. Must look into that again. This just came up in my examination of the Hawkinses. Do you have access to Elise Jourdan's books? Among th

A correspondant was kind enough to e-mail me to say, quote: John Middleton and his wife did go to Virginia, but they returned in their later years, and he died at his surviving daughter Charity's house in Frederick / Montgomery Co., MD. . I don't have any further information on that, but thought I should get the

Hi Shirley, You asked about the document concerning Alexander SMITH in 1688, and whether it was a deed of gift or will. You also asked about Elise Greenup Jourdan's abstracts and whether it was an error where she stated: ADMINISTRATION OF ESTATE BY SARAH, d/o WILLIAM SMITH, NOW WIFE OF HENRY HAWKINS, JR; ESTATE INVENTORY RECORDED 24 Mar 1689 Charles County, Maryland land records Q:2-6, microfilm 0,013,749, Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah. I have a bit of data on this family, also. If I have identified the correct Benjamin Thomas as the son of George, Sr. Notice in the following power of attorney that Benjamin states St George's was left to him by his father's will.. According to the abstract of George Sr's will that I have, only Benjamin's brother George, Jr. was left St George's in his father George Sr's will. James Thomas identifies the tract as being left by George Sr. to George Jr. Could these be the sons of George Jr? Or was George J
18. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Thomas Stone and his Hoskins relations. [1]
Hi, List! Janet was kind enough to send me the source notation for the line "13. Martha Hoskins, b. c. 1707, m. Thomas Stone of Chas Co., MD before 26 May 1729." from the book "Mudd Family of the U.S." volume II, pg. 1477. These were the references: - Chas. Co. Wills, AB#3, 125 - Ibid, 154 - Ibid, AB#3, 127 Am I correct in assuming that the Will Books mentioned are those kept in La Plata? If so, I'll think (real loud) several vulgar words. I can no longer do the things necessary to view that microfilm. If
19. [MDCHARLE-L] Hawkins, Smoot, Downing [1]
Does anyone know if the Hawkins family ties into the Downing family? Henry Hawkins Downing was born in 1780. The Smoots married into the family after Henry, but I don't know if they did, before. Henry's daughter married a Smoot and several members of his wife's family, (Airy Hitch), also married Smoots. Earlene

21. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Thomas Stone and his Hoskins relations. [1]
Hi Norma, Not sure if this will help other than naming Thomas Stone's wife, but... The only references I could find on Thomas Stone's ties to the Mudd family is from my "Mudd Family of the U.S." volumes: pg. 1477, Vol II: "9. Oswald Hoskins, b... c. 1699, unm. d. Chas Co, Md. before 28 Oct 1721. 22. [MDCHARLE-L] Thomas Stone and his Hoskins relations. [1]
Does anyone know which Hoskins was the wife of Thomas Stone? How did Thomas Stone's children get to be siblings of the Hoskins children, if they in fact were? Any help or clues gratefully received! I keep running into a snag in many little ways because I haven't recorded correctly the family or the Hoskins relations of Thomas Stone, the son of John Stone and Elizabeth Warren. (I don't know why John's first wife is given as Elizabeth Warren. I am going with tradition here.) Thomas Stone's wife is given on
23. [MDCHARLE-L] Hawkins, Smoot, Thomas [1]
Surnames: Hawkins, Smoot, Thomas What I am actually searching for here is the name of the Eleanor, widow of William Smoot, d. by 1753-54, Charles Co., m. by 1753-54, Benjamin Thomas, b. ca. 1717-23, moved to Prince William Co., Va. by 1776. There are several contradictions in the versions of the Hawkins family below, and I wonder if Mrs. Eleanor (____) Smoot Thomas was indeed a Hawkins. Whatever her name, I would be pleased for help in identifying her. Elise Greenup Jourdan, Early Families of Sout

Hi Bob, I can't tell you the maiden name of Eleanor, widow of William SMOOT who died 1753/4 in Charles County, MD. I can tell you the following. Sarah SMITH was born about 1669, the daughter of Alexander SMITH and wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth was first married to Francis POSEY, and second to Nicholas BELAINE. Sarah SMITH's half siblings were Anne POSEY who married John MOULD John POSEY who married Susanna -?- Nicholas BELAINE who married Mary -?- Grace BELAINE who married Giles COLLIAR. Sarah's full sib
25. Re: [MDCHARLE-L] Re: Zephaniah Brawner b. 1782 ChasCoMD [1]
Dear List: I am very interested in the reference of Zephaniah Brawner being a son of Edward Brawner and Ann Franklin. Is there a source that proves Edward Brawner's wife to be a Franklin? Does anyone know who her parents were? Edward Brawner was the administrator of the estate of my ancestor, Noah Franklin. I have always been left wondering what the connection between Edward and Noah was. Perhaps they were brothers-in-law. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Ted Olmsted In a message dated 1
