Hey Pat,
Got a quick question.
Can someone access the current electoral rolls in order to get your name,
birth date & address?
If so, how do they go about it?
Bye for now,

Carol,
Connie Beachy was kind enough to go out to that area and take pictures for
me when I first began researching my Maryland family. What a treasure she
is to all of us!
Thomas Johnson, the first governor of Maryland, was my 5th
Great-Grandfather. His daughter was Rebecca Jennings Johnson who married
the son of Thomas' brother (James) and his name was also Thomas (yes, they
were first cousins). Rebecca and Thomas had a daughter named Margaret
Rebecca and she married Captain James Grahame. While res

There is a picture of the old Johnson house in the back of Albert L.
Feldstein's _Garrett County, MD (Postcard History Series)_. I'm not
sure of when the picture was taken, but it appears in much better
shape than it currently does. (I don't own the book, but noticed it
while browsing a bookstore this past weekend.)
I've a recent treo of pictures of the house taken by my sister a few
weeks ago that I'll be uploading over the next few days. This poor old
building has definitely taken a turn
Carol,
Connie Beachy is actually responsible for the picture of the Johnson
structures. She gave me permission to post them.
I've looked around the web for images of the building, and am surprised not
to have found any yet. Do any of the museums in the area have any pictures?
Who owns that property now? I'm a bit surprised not to find it protected as
a state historical site.

Dick,
Above is the link to the Oakland American Legion site where you will find
contact information. The American Legion marks the graves of Veterans so I
would think they might be able to provide you with the information you
request.

For years, I've used "Cheers!" to jauntily end my emails, but decided
to throw in "Slainte Mhath" occasionally as well. Like Ellen said, it
translates to a wish for good health.
My 3-year old and I have been learning some Irish songs for children,
and the odd mispronounced Irish phrases occasionally make it into my
vocabulary. Be glad you're reading it rather than hearing it. :)

back to George C. and Maude Elizabeth (Pope *) Turner in 1936, about
12 years after the school closed.

Might anyone know the parents of this Francis A. Brobst?

Prior to 1900, we do have to struggle with some old handwriting in the
deeds, but still, most of the time we can make out names (Be prepared for
various spellings). I just found a typed copy of a 1901 deed for this John
Brobst naming (including wives' names) 17 of his heirs. I was able to find
26 deeds involving the Brobst family. The deeds do hold a lot of clues.
I also stumbled across a deed for my g, g, grandfather, William P. Murphy,
(1858) and wife Anna. It is the only document I have for him, other t
John,
I visited your photo site, thank you for sharing! I wanted to comment on
the old Johnson house as I noted the picture was dated 2004. That was the
year my sister and I first saw what was left of probably a very stunning
house back then. It's style is different from any of the older houses I've
come across in Garrett Co...it was sad to see it in such awful state of
neglect. We didn't know the name of the original family but as it stood in
2004 we named it the haunted house. I once again passed th
Who was it who was looking for the Potter family?
I finally found my package for this family. It's all about Kelita Potter and his family.
I got a lot of info from a Erma (Wilson) McCaughey-Miller..back in 1996.
Erma lived in Stewart, Florida. She died about a year later.
Booklets of the Potters and other families can be found at the Allegany County College, here in Cumberland and at the museum in Oakland, Garrett County. Or it could be in the Oakland Library.

Jeanette, PA, is as close as I can guess.

This site is amazing to me even though I haven't been successful in learning
about my ancestors who lived in Maryland somewhere from about 1860 to 1869.
The couple, Samuel and Mary Queer BROOKS came from Somerset County, PA, had
children in VA/WV and MD. When Samuel died or disappeared about 1869 Mary
returned to Somerset County, PA. None of the immediate family remained in MD, and I
presume it was Allegany County where they lived. I am, also presuming that

Gerald,
Is there anyway you can scan the text so that we may see the word in original form? I lived in Lancaster County for a while which is right beside Chester County.

Hi Mary,
I have this information for Frances (Francis) A. (Asbury) Brobst too but
this is not the Francis A. Brobst in the 1845 deed.
I found (what I believe to be) the Francis A. Brobst, who bought the land
near Altamont, in the census one time in PA. I can not find him again.
