4. Re: [MDGARRET] Michaels Family [1]
I believe that the modern day custom and definition are that a "maid" is a single woman, in constrast to "matron" who is a married woman. For example, at a wedding, the bride will be attended by a "maid of honor" if the person doing the attending is single, but if the person doing the attending is married, then she is a "matron of honor." My guess is that your Veanie Michaels was not previously married when she married your g-grandfather. Walt ----------------------------- Bonnie Hager wrote: >I

I'm on several lists which do ROLL CALL also. It is an excellent process. And remember, if you don't want to be overwhelmed, just delete the messages you don't want. This would be a big benefit to Garrett researchers, I think. I'm glad Pam suggested it. Happy New Year to all. Beverly Railey Walter Oakmont PA
9. [MDGARRET] Virus [1]
Here's something new - some people will do anything to spoil the fun! This was posted at the bottom of one of the Roots Web E-mail lists I belong to, I am sending it around to all the others. Sorry if you have already seen this - I hope I didn't already send it out this morning: Virus warnings RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are not allowed. 13. Re: [MDGARRET] ANOTHER McROBIE [1]
Wow - Connie, is he a local guy? Of course, you know my branch of the family spells our name with a "Y" - McCroby - and you can tell in an instant who my ancestor is! We always say mah-CROW-bee, not the "Mick" at all! Much of the spelling - and misspelling has been done by record keepers - I have seen the name go back and forth on several census reports. Anyone out there have any other ideas? Connie - thanks for this bit of info, I will write you off list with my home address. I am sure curious where he is

22. Re: [MDGARRET] Feik, Spiker [1]
Hello Debra: My main interest is in the Bowsers and Moons in Garrett County, my paternal lines. Lately though I've become interested in some of the families their relatives married into, such as the Feiks, Fikes, Spikers, etc.. When I run across these families while searching census records I enter the data for them in PAF 5. It's getting a bit out of hand, though. Here's what I have for Jacob Spiker- 1860 Federal Census, Maryland, Allegany County, District 2, Selbysport Post Office, page 243 or 600, SK
