Carol,
Are you talking about the McKenzie settlement? I have seen this mentioned
in several books as the McKenzie Settlement. Leo and his brother *Jermiah
McKenzie were pioneer settlers .I visited St. Ann's Church where Amanda
Ellen McKenzie Wilhelm is buried in Avilton, Garrett Co. in Sept. 2002.
From there we decided to try and fnd the settlement, figuring it could not
be too very far from the church. We were very suprised to soon find
McKenzie Rd! We stopped at a house on the right and asked abou
I am searching for more information on Meshack King, born in 1802, Ohio Co, WV, married Rosanna Grosse on 6 Mar 1832 in Allegany Co, MD. They had 2 children, Almeda Louise, b. 1833 in Allegany Co, and William, b. 1835 in Allegany Co. Family lore says that Meshack and Rosanna lived in Oldtown, MD. I don't have anything else on them except that they moved at some point to Licking Co, OH and Meshack died there in 1864. Any info or ideas appreciated.
I live in NM so not likely that I will get to MD anytime soo

Delores,
No need to contact Rodney, but thank you very much. Since I had put out my
original inquiry about a place I thought was called "The McKenzie Compound"
I have received some off mailing list McKenzie information. My goodness
there are loads of McKenzie families on this mailing list. And I want to
thank them all for coming to my aid! I believe now that it is the "McKenzie
Settlement" and the word Compound was perhaps a different twist.

Hi Wendy,
The Vanbibber that I know is located a couple miles from my house here in
Harford County, MD. The present official spelling is Van Bibber. With such
an unusual name I would guess that it almost has to be one and the same...
'course I could be wrong.
Hope it helps,

Eva,
My heart goes out to everyone in your area. My sister-in-law has been
very much effected, as her parents lived in Sago when she was born, and
her grandfather Burner gave the land for the church. Her mother was a
Tallman. She is presently incapacitated with vertigo, but is able to
watch tv, and is feeling great sorrow.
My prayers are with the survivors and the families of those who did
not make it. I pray the news media does not stir up hatred and animosity
among those affected. These people need
Thanks for the Fazenbaker associations. I have that family very distantly

I too looked through the book. I had mistakenly thought her father was a
minister, but I guess he was just quite active in the church as a member.
Sorry for the misinformation.

Fran,
I have a Savilla Bowser, b 24 Mar 1880, marrying George Ries. Her parents are listed as Thomas Bowser and Catherina Hinebaugh. That's about all I have on them. She married into my Ries line!
Have you checked the census?
Good Luck in your search!!!!

I have an ancestor by the name of Thomas Pendergast
who lived In Oakland in Youghglade P.O. in 1854. The
source for this info is an ad placed in the Boston
Pilot's newspaper column "Missing Friends" looking for
information on the whereabouts of Bridget Pendergast,
a daughter
who arrived in Boston on the ship David in September
1850. I have spent a lot of time trying to find
Thomas or his son Michael's name in any record from
this time frame. They should be in the 1850 census but
I did not find them. P
Thank you Connie for setting me straight on the spelling of Greenbury
Humbertson. I have changed that man's name from Greenberry to Greenbury so
many times after seeing it one way or the other....Greenbury it stays!
I'm excited to see this list has started off the New Year with a bang!
Hey Sonny. Did I miss where you put the picture of the family gathering I
sent that took place at the Cassleman Inn? Some of the family names of
those in attendant have come up lately.

Hi there Pat,
I know there was a Civil War battle fought at Strawberry Plains, VA. north
of the James River,\
but according to my notes on the "Missouri Friends":
.
".... after returning from Missouri Isaac Friend
(one of Charles Friend's sons)
lived on the south side of the Yough. river in a log cabin half on
Strawberry
Plains and half on Friend's Delight. Prudence his mother lived with
him....."
This would have been in the Glades area, near Sang Run.of course.
Could this be the "Strawberry Plains" you

Thanks for the replies. It seems (once again) I had the wrong area. Others have helped me --- Terra Alta was formerly "Cranberry Plains".
There is mention of Strawberry Plains and Friend's Delight, which is in the Sang Run area of Garrett County, Maryland. This would be the right location.
Thanks for all the help,

Hello Fran:
I've been working on the Thomas Bowser family off and on for several years
now, and still haven't
gotten it together. Thomas and my great grandfather, Cornelius Bowser, were
brothers.
I started with what I found in the Bowser and Poorbaugh family histories.
Found errors in both.
Quite a bit of conflicting information and lots o questions, regarding the
Thomas Bowser family.
There doesn't seem to be any marriage (License) record for Thomas and
