Hi Beverly,
My King's were from Oakland as far as I know they were always there. Wish I
could help you.

Just to find out if I have you in my file.

Don, did you see my post regarding my relationship to
the Enlow and Paugh/Friend families.
I would appreciate hearing of anything you might add.

Anyone have any idea where this house is/was? or if it is still
standing?
I inherited much of my genealogy from Grace N. Bruce and would love to
find this spot.

Glad to be of help. I think I get the biggest surge when I can actually go
and stand on the same ground where my ancestors lived. From what Lawrence

Mike,
THANK YOU a million times over for the 1910 Garrett County
Census information regarding my Knox family. This is
wonderful news for me!
James Knox was the son of my Great-Grandfather, John Edward
Knox. Simeon Knox, age 57, was the son of Simeon Knox Sr.
and Charlotte Wiland. The Jacob Knox listed is a son of
Simeon Knox Jr. and Caroline Brown.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write down this
information and post it to the list. This is a great help
to me!!
Beth
Ann, I really appreciate your help. I thought that Vale of Avoca was such an
interesting name I had to know where it is!
Anyone know what the name came from? Thanks.

Warren, Daniel Fear and George Fear are mentioned in the book. The
road from route 42 north out of Friendsville has a road going off to the
left which is named Fearer Road. The area near Sand Spring was called
Fearer at one time, I believe. George A. Fear was listed as a farmer in
the Friendsville area. Daniel Fear operated a wagon stand about 2 miles
west of Keyser's Ridge in the early 1800s. Delores
Beverly,
I have very little information on Clifford, but here is what I have:
Clifford Lacy Friend, born 5/13/1896, died 10/21/1994 and married around
1919 to Mary Slagel.
Clifford served as a Senator from Garrett Co., MD in 1935 to 1941 and in
1955 to 1958.
I wish that I had more information to share with you.
Good luck with your search,
Wendy

I think the Benjamin Friend above is the son of Josiah

The cemetery is mostly the White family and Benjamin F.
Friend married Ethleen White.
Ethleen was the daughter of Jonathan M. White and
Elizabeth A. Lower. They too are buried at this
cemetery.

I don't really have Jonathan White in my files, and may
have an error there. Would you confirm I have this
entered correctly?

Lois,
I looked at the display of Melky Miller stuff at the museum and we have
thing that measured the "proof" of the rye whiskey, Melky Miller shot
glasses, Melky Miller jugs, Melky Miller drinking glasses, Melky Miller
pictures, etc. Sign notes this stuff was on loan from Ralph Miller.

In all the Knox marriage records I've extracted from the
Garrett County Courthouse, I only have two remaining which I
have not made a connection on yet. Do either of these names
ring a bell with anyone . . .
CORA CATHERINE KNOX, 25 Single, married on May 30, 1903, at
Friendsville, MD, by Henry E. Friend, to WALTER CHRISTIAN
GUTHRIE.
CAROLINE KNOX, 68 yrs, widow, McHenry, married on March 5,
1913 to NORMAN BRUCE LEE, 68 years, widower.
The only Caroline Knox I've come across was "Caroline Brown"
married
I get the reminder letter, below, from PaWest-(d or
L)@rootsweb. (insert "-request" to join List). Since it
may be bothersome to some on the MdGarret List, I will only
forward when I see a few recognizable surnames. PaWest may
turn out to be a very good clearing house for lots of our
ancestors----might be worth your while to join it--??
Our own Connie donated to this latest list of photos!

It has turned into a great site!

Dear Kathleen and all,
I believe you are right about Alfred Ira being the son of
John Frederick and Rachel Ross Friend Friend. Rachel was the
daughter of A. Coleman and Rachel Ross Friend.
Thanks for your sharp eye.

For Jeff and Lois,
Thanks so much for the information on the Lininger/Hetrick connections and
the possibility of finding a Lininger still living here in Garrett County.
Yes, Lois, I will let you know what I learn and also ask if they have email.
Now, Was the Owen Bowser place the one at the end of Legeer Road or the one
behind Gary Buckel's house? I've been visiting a sick person out on Legeer
Road and, Lois, I swear, I think of you every time I go past Gary's.

The following was on another list.
Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left

Just learned that one of the Historical Society Volunteers died early today.
Matt Novak was a retired history teacher who still returned to Southern High
School to help a group of students organize interviews with veterans of WW
II (now in book form at the Society, I think) and the Korean War (work in
progress).
Matt Novak will be missed here on the mountaintop.
