Hello all,
I received this poem from another mailing list and thought someone on this list might enjoy as I have.

Dear Ancestor,
Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and alone,
The name, the date, are chiseled out in weather-beaten stone.
It reaches out for all to see, it is too late to mourn,
You did not know I would exist, you died and I was born.
Yet each of us are part of you, in flesh, in blood, in bone,
And in my breast there beats a pulse entirely not my own.
Dear ancestor, the
This is to Bettie Wyler. Please send me the info on the Broadwaters in the doomsday book. Thanks, Alice Saunders

In Allegany County the index is sorted first by name. Almost every letter
of the alphabet has it's own book. Inside the cover you find some heavy
paper which lists the surnames and gives you the page they begin on. Once
you find the pages for your family you'll notice they are all in DATE ORDER,
from the oldest at the beginning to the newest at the end.
Books show both the grantees and grantors.
Say you find John Friend sold property in Allegany County in 1810 to Adam
Yoder.
Friend is on page 5 - begi

Very nice!!~

Some of you have asked to be informed about Margaret Brenneman Hershberger, preservationist and all-round lovely person.
Margaret is home again from the hospital, being cared for by Hospice and her family. She is unable to sit at her computer but she can look out the window of the house occupied by Broadwaters and Brennemans since 1875 at the split-rail fence and buildings she has cared for during her lifetime.

Bettie,
From what I understand, Margaret Hershberger's home backs up to the land
where my grandparents Melchoir and Elizabeth Slabaugh Hetrick lived when they
were first married (Brenneman's Store) is now in front of that same area. She
told me (through Connie Beachy) that the home is no longer there and just a
few of the maples remain of the sugar farm my grandparents had there. Margaret
was going to show me where they lived next time I visited Garrett County. We
missed her on my last trip un
Some of you may have copies of the Glade Star -Civil War issue, so I thought
you might like to know about this item, which was published in a later issue

Lloyd,
Sorry, I got off track -- researched Brubakers and Pitzers instead of
Sanders and Wamsleys
...was wondering if you have any
knowledge of Harriet L. Sanders or Charles L. Wamsley? They married on
August 23, 1885 in Garrett County, Maryland. I live in Texas and do not the
ability to visit the Garrett County Historical Museum in person. Thanks! ...
Soooo, here goes:
Hoyes Pioneer Families list the following Sanders: Herman, Margaret, Mary
Jane, John F. (from Orna-Bruck, Germany, 1825) and
Connie,
Is this information listed on the Allegany County
MDGenWeb ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~mdallegh/ ) site
anywhere? If not, it would be a great addition for
anyone planning a first-time trip. It would be
difficult to find if one had to rely on searching the
archives of the mailing list to find it.
If it IS already there, I counldn't find it and I
apologize for the post.
